Using This Calculator
This calculator can be used to compare any amount of credit cards that we feature on this site. Compare travel credit cards against cash back cards, hotel cards against airline cards, and any other combination you can come up with. Don't let others make the decision on which credit card is the best for you. Find out yourself by configuring the calculator to how you will use them. Below are the current features of this calculator.
When you first select a credit card, you have the option to add it to group 1, group 2, or both. You can also, where applicable, toggle the annual fee, input how many authorized users you will have, enter any extra cash value, and enter a sign up bonus. Once you hit add, the card will be put in the selected group(s) and you will then be able to continue customization as explained below.
This will list the cards you have added to Group 1 and Group 2. Beside each card will show the annual fee amount, the authorized user cost, the extra value amount, and whether not a sign up bonus was entered. The values will only show if they were selected when you added the card. You can edit any of these fields by clicking on the card. This will only change the amount for that specific group. You will also have the option to remove the card from the edit menu.
This section will let you customize how much each point or mile is worth to you. The default values that are populated when you select the card are my own values based off easy redemptions. If you value the points/miles higher or lower, you can click on a value and change it. When you're comparing credit cards side by side, knowing how much each point/mile is worth to you is very important. Do note that you will not be able to change the value of cash back since one cent is worth one cent no matter how you spend the penny.
If a card comes with elite status or some type of membership, it will be listed here. This is mostly tied to hotel status at the moment, but will expand to include other options as time goes on and more cards are added. Select a status and see how big of an impact it can make when comparing groups of reward cards.
One of the most important parts of finding the best credit card is how much it will reward you back in points, miles, or cash back. This section lets you enter your spend per month/year for any category and select which card you will use for that category. When selecting a card, it will let you know which card will earn you the most rewards (in cash) so that you pick the best card for the job.
This will list bonuses that focus on points and miles earned after certain requirements have been met. This can be for spend bonuses, credit card renewal bonuses, and much more. These bonuses will usually be tied to a certain category or membership status.
This will list the total amount of points, miles, or cash back you have accumulated with each credit card for the respective groups. It will also list the cash value of those points based on the value entered in the 'Point/Mile Value' section. This total will also consist of the sign up bonus if one was entered.
This section will consist of any cash bonuses, perks, and benefits associated with the cards selected. You will be able to select assign a cash value to certain benefits. If you think a free award night is worth $80, you can change it to reflect that cash value. Already have Global Entry through another card? Set it to a value of $0. Only plan on using $50 out of that $100 airline or travel credit? Set it to reflect that. Just click the bonus and adjust the value. Do note that not all bonuses will be adjustable. Some bonuses will change based on card selection and spend in certain categories.
Extra Worth & Fees
This will consist of the sum of each cards annual fee, authorized user fee, and the extra value amount you entered when you added the card. The sum of all of these fees (or credits) will then be displayed at the bottom of for each group.
This is the most important part of the calculator. It displays which group of credit cards earns you the best value. This takes into account all earnings, bonuses, and fees.
