The Point Calculator - About This Website

About The Site and Me

I started working on this site in March of 2017. I've poured countless hours into updating the site, testing new features, and looking for the best way to help people find credit cards based on their spending. This site came to mind while trying to find my own perfect combination of cards. After crunching numbers on excel for a few hours, I started to wonder if other people faced this same problem. After answering myself with 'probably so', I chose to build this site. I plan on adding as many reward programs and calculators as possible and hopefully help people make an easier decision when it comes to what card works for them based on their own individual or business preferences.

Updates To The Site

Now that my site is up and functioning to my standards, my goal is to provide at least two calculators per week. When I'm not working on projects, I also try to put a YouTube Video or two. Sometimes I do get deep into my site projects and may go missing for a day or two, but I try to keep up with social network and questions my followers ask me. I'm always open to new suggestions and any ideas to make the calculators better and easier to use. Even if it's something small or simple, let me know and I'll look into it!

A Little About Me

I'm Michigan born and raised with a bachelor degree in Mathematics and minor in Computer Science. My main course of study in college was C++, but as time went on I ended up switching my major to Math. Once I graduated, I realized that I still enjoyed programming but never had time to really turn it into a hobby. Then in March 2017, when I decided to make this site, I jumped back into program. While I did forget everything C++ (all I can do is the standard Hello World command), I brushed up on my knowledge of HTML and learned javascript, jquery, php, and JSON. That's right. I taught myself four languages just so I could create this site. As I continue to learn these languages, I apply new techniques and keywords to my site to make it better.

Traveling the world is so exciting!

My Traveling

I enjoy traveling. A lot. I usually go on a trip at least once a month. This could be somewhere in the United States or somewhere international. Before I discovered points, miles, and reward programs, I would probably take two-three small trips a year. They would usually be local to visit family and/or friends. Big trips was limited to about once every other year. How do I get into taking trips monthly? Well I wanted to better my credit score because that's the adult thing to do. While surfing the MyFICO Message Boards and learning about bettering my credit, I saw that people were grabbing up credit cards to earn reward points off of sign up bonuses. Taking trips across the country after earning big bonuses to run $1,000 to $5,000 across credit cards. As I studied and learned more about reward points and programs, I stumbled upon The Points Guy and Doctor Of Credit. I then realized that this was an easy way help shave some of the cost off of traveling and give myself an extra trip or two a year. Little did I know, that based on how I used the points, I could go on multiple trips per year. I used points for the first time for a trip to Niagara Falls, Canada in 2015. Not having to pay for the hotel obviously saved me a lot of money. From there, I knew I would be chasing reward points for the rest of forever.
