Hotel credit card rewards are the best option if you're looking to maximize your rewards with a specific hotel chain. These rewards are typically best used for free and discounted nights.
Unfortunately, there aren't any options when it comes to co-branded hotel credit cards in Australia and there's only a handful of flexible travel rewards programs that allow you to transfer points to hotel loyalty programs.
Your best bet for maximizing hotel rewards points outside of transfer partners is by spending with partners and, of course, booking stays at hotels.
Marriott Bonvoy
If you're looking to earn Marriott Bonvoy Points on credit card spend in Australia, your only option is going to be the American Express Platinum Card.
The Platinum Card is a luxury travel card that offers exceptional travel benefits along with top-tier service. With the card comes complimentary elite status with several hotel chains (including Marriott Bonvoy Gold status), lounge access worldwide, car rental status, and much more.
As a Platinum Card member, you'll be able to transfer points to Marriott Bonvoy at a 3:2 ratio meaning that you will earn 2,000 Marriott Bonvoy Points for every 3,000 AMEX Points transferred. You'll also be able to transfer your points to Qantas Frequent Flyer, Virgin Australia Velocity, Hilton Honors, and many other partners.
If you love to travel and you plan on getting invested in the Membership Rewards program, I highly recommend going for The Platinum Card as it will be one of the only travel cards you need.

American Express Membership Rewards Points can be transferred to Hilton Honors at a 2:1 ratio meaning that every 2,000 AMEX Points transferred will give you 1,000 Hilton Honors Points.
You'll be able to transfer points no matter which Membership Rewards credit card you have, so this gives you a good amount of cards to choose from.
The American Express Explorer credit card will be one of the best options when it comes to value while the American Express Platinum Card will offer you the most points per $1 spent as well as many luxury travel benefits including complimentary Hilton Honors Gold status.

Points earned with Commonwealth Bank and Citi can be transferred to the IHG Rewards program.
CommBank Awards
Awards Points earned with Commonwealth Bank can be transferred to IHG at a 2.5 to 1 ratio meaning that every 2,500 Awards Points transferred will give you 1,000 IHG Points.
If you're big on travel, especially international travel, you'll want to consider the Ultimate Awards credit card as you'll easily be able to rake in lots of IHG Points on everyday spending. The card also has no international transaction fees which is great if you make purchases internationally.
The other CommBank Awards credit cards are decent options for IHG Points if you're looking to top off your account occasionally, but they will not earn you as much as when it comes to everyday spending.
