Amex Platinum Card Calculator

How This Credit Card Rewards Calculator Works
This tool uses a Net Value framework to estimate what you earn minus the costs of holding the card, based on your inputs.
-
The formula:
Net Value = ((Rewards Earned from Spend × Value per points) + Perk Value) − (Annual Fee + Authorized User Fees + Foreign Transaction Fees)
If you include intro bonuses in the calculator, they're added to annual value using the same points valuation you set.
- Total customization: Baseline estimates may pre-fill for convenience, but you can override values (valuations, spend, perks, and fees) to match your strategy.
- Perk valuation: Benefits may default to full, partial, or zero value depending on how easy they are to use. You should adjust each perk to a "utilization value" based on what you realistically save.
- Transfer modeling: For transferable rewards, conversions are modeled using standard ratios for your region. You can adjust ratios to reflect transfer bonuses or recent changes.
- Verified rates: Default earning multipliers and fees are based on current issuer/program terms, then your calculator inputs determine the final result.

Frequently asked questions
How should I value the Platinum's credits and perks?
Every credit and perk is editable. Count the $200 travel credit if you'll book at least one trip a year through Amex Travel, and the dining credit only if you'd eat at a listed restaurant anyway. For lounge access, enter what a visit is worth to you, times the visits you'd make. Turn off anything you won't use.
Does the calculator include the fee and foreign purchases?
Yes. The annual fee is included and editable, and you can set how many supplementary cards to add. If you change a spending category's currency from Canadian dollars, the calculator applies the 2.5% conversion fee and the 1X rate to that spending.
How do I see what Platinum points are worth as Aeroplan points?
Set the card's model currency to Aeroplan, and the calculator converts the points at the transfer ratio and values them as Aeroplan points. You can also change the point value directly if you value Membership Rewards points differently.
How do I model the Platinum with the Cobalt?
Put both cards in the same column and assign groceries, dining and delivery to the Cobalt and travel to the Platinum. Both earn Membership Rewards points, so the column shows your combined total.
Can I pair the Platinum with an Aeroplan card?
Yes. Add an Aeroplan card like the Aeroplan Reserve to the same column. Set the Platinum's currency to Aeroplan to see one Aeroplan total, or leave it as Membership Rewards to see both balances separately.
How many cards can I compare?
Up to 10 columns, with as many cards in each column as you like. Use separate columns to compare the Platinum on its own, the Platinum with a Cobalt, and the Gold Rewards Card side by side.
