Marriott and Hertz Partnership
Get the details on earning Marriott Bonvoy Points booking rentals with Hertz and how you can earn complimentary Five Star and President's Circle status.
Marriott Bonvoy and Hertz has teamed up to provide some pretty solid benefits for those who partake in both reward programs. These rewards are in the form of extra Marriott Bonvoy Points and complimentary Hertz Gold Plus Rewards status.
Earn Marriott Bonvoy Points Booking Hertz
Marriott Bonvoy members will receive special benefits when booking with Hertz. Members will be able to earn up to 2,000 Marriott Bonvoy Points per rental and receive special discounts off of the base rate. You can book directly through Marriott's website or you can use the following codes when booking through Hertz along with your Marriott Bonvoy number:
- CDP# 154080
- PC# 204918
How much will earn and save? Let's take a look at a Friday-Sunday booking at Detroit Metro Airport in February 2020. First up is booking through Marriott's Hertz portal. Do note that you cannot earn both Marriott Bonvoy Points and Hertz Rewards Points on a car rental.
|Booking Through Marriott|
|Compact||$206.82||500 Marriott Points|
So with this booking you'll be paying out around $200 and earning 500 Marriott Points which I put at 0.7 cents each for a total value of $3.50.
Next up is booking through the Hertz website without using the provided CDP and PC numbers. Hertz Points listed are at the member rate of 1 Hertz Point per $1 spent.
|Booking Through Hertz Site|
|Compact||$206.82||206 Hertz Points|
|Economy||$200.10||200 Hertz Points|
|Intermediate||$202.58||202 Hertz Points|
As you can see, the prices are exactly the same. The only difference here is that you'll be earning Hertz Points instead of Marriott Bonvoy Points. Depending on the redemption, Hertz Points can be worth as little as 2.5 cents each and as much as 5 cents each. So you're looking at a value of $5 to $10. On top of that, Hertz is featured on several cash back portals including Rakuten meaning you can earn cash back on this booking along with your Hertz points and whatever rewards you earn from the credit card you used to make the booking.
Lastly, let's try booking on the Hertz website using the CDP# and PC# codes. Again, Hertz Points are listed at the member rate of 1 Hertz Point per $1 spent.
|Booking Through Hertz Site|
|Compact||$187.81||187 Hertz Points|
|Economy||$183.38||183 Hertz Points|
|Intermediate||$185.60||185 Hertz Points|
While the PC# didn't work for this booking, I was able to successfully use Marriott's CDP# which shaved off $15-$20 off the rates. Combine those savings with Hertz Points, credit card rewards points, and cash back from a portal and you've saved yourself a nice penny.
I can't say that booking directly through Hertz and using the CDP#/PC# will always be the best option, but you have a lot more earning potential booking directly thanks to cash back portals. I recommend comparing the outcome of both bookings to be sure you're earning/saving the most.
Complimentary Hertz Status
Marriott members with Titanium Elite and higher status will be given complimentary top-tier elite status with Hertz. Do note that you will need to enroll in the Hertz Gold Plus Rewards program through the Hertz website if you don't have a Hertz account. After that is done, you'll need to link your Marriott Bonvoy profile to your Hertz Gold Plus Rewards profile. Linking your accounts will require the account/rewards number of both programs, so be sure to have those handy. Those who create a new Hertz Gold Plus Rewards account will need to wait up to 48 hours before being able to link accounts.
The following Hertz Gold Plus Rewards statuses will be given to top-tier Marriott Bonvoy members:
|Marriott Bonvoy Status||Hertz Gold Plus Rewards Status|
|Titanium Elite Members||Five Star Status|
|Ambassador Elite Members||President's Circle Status|
Hertz elite status comes with many benefits. Some of those benefits include car-class upgrades, expedited rental service, Hertz Fast Lane powered by CLEAR, vehicle selection, and bonus points per $1 spent at Hertz. Even if you don't have Titanium or higher elite status with Marriott, I still recommend signing up for a Hertz Gold Plus Rewards account in order to earn Hertz Rewards Points which have a rich value of 2.5 to 5 cents each when used towards free rentals.
If you're a fan of both Marriott and Hertz, then this partnership can be a benefit to you. Those with Titanium Elite status or higher should link their Hertz and Marriott account and enjoy the bonus perks that come with elevated status in the Hertz Gold Plus Rewards program.
