Expedia is an online travel agency (OTA) that allows you to book airline tickets, hotel reservations, car rentals, cruises and vacation packages. Since Expedia is an OTA, there is a chance that you will not receive credit towards the loyalty/rewards program of the hotel or airline company you're booking through Expedia. Luckily, Expedia offers it's own Expedia Rewards Program which will give you a few extra benefits and perks when booking your travel through their portal.
Credit Card Rewards Calculators
Expedia does not offer any co-branded credit cards for Canada based members that earns Expedia Rewards Points. This means you'll want to find a credit card that earns a great return on general travel spend. One great program is the TD Rewards Program which offers a high return on bookings made through the ExpediaForTD.com portal. You can also redeem your earned TD Points via the ExpediaForTD portal.
You can compare the results side by side any credit cards featured on the site to find out which earns you the most rewards and the best return. If cookies are enabled, all spend entered (primary/first column only) will carry over to all credit card calculators on the website.
Alternative Expedia Rewards Credit Card Calculators
As previously mentioned, there's no Canadian credit cards that earn Expedia Rewards Points directly like the ones offered to those in the United States. If you enjoy booking through Expedia, you can use the TD Rewards Program to earn a high return on Expedia spend booked through their special portal. This is a solid option if you like the flexibility of booking in the Expedia Portal.
Redeeming Rewards & Cash Value
Expedia Rewards Points can be redeemed for hotels, car rentals, flights, and attractions through the Expedia website. They can also be applied towards Flight+Hotel coupons and be donated to charity.
Expedia Rewards Points are earned by booking different forms of travel through the Expedia website. The type of travel you book will determine the base amount of points you get per CAD $1 spent. The table below lists the amount of points you'll earn.
|Travel Type||Points Earned|
|Hotel Bookings||2 Points Per CAD $1|
|Car Rental||2 Points Per CAD $1|
|Cruise||2 Points Per CAD $1|
|Things To Do||2 Points Per CAD $1|
|Vacation Packages||2 Points Per $1|
|Flights||1 Point Per CAD $5|
Earn Double Points
You can double your base earnings when you book your Expedia travel through the Expedia mobile app. This means you'll earn 4 points per CAD $1 when booking hotels, car rentals, cruises, vacation packages, and activies and 2 points per CAD $5 when booking flights. I'd recommend researching your trip via a laptop or computer (if you want to) and making the booking via the mobile app once you have everything finanlized. This is an easy way to earn double the return so I wouldn't pass up the opportunity!
Expedia + Cash Back Portals
Cash back portals allow you to earn cash back when shopping online at thousands of retailers including Expedia. They're easy to use and they allow you to earn additional cash back in addition to the rewards you'll already earn when booking your travel. Here's how it works:
- Start at the cash back portal's website
- Find Expedia and click Shop to start a new session
- You'll be dropped off on the Expedia.ca home page to book travel as normal
- Once you make your reservation and complete it, the cash back portal will be notified
- Cash back will be credited to your account
So you'll end up earning cash back from the portal, Expedia Rewards Points on the booking, and whatever rewards you receive with the credit card you use. That's called triple dipping on rewards.
There's many cash back portals to choose from. If you're not apart of any cash back portal, you can help out the website by signing up for the top programs below. Cashback portals are free to sign up for and free to use. They also do not require any kind of payment info as you're generally paid by check, PayPal, or gift card. I've made a great deal of money using cash back portals over the years and I highly suggest you use them for all purchases made online, not just travel!
