RBC offers Avion Rewards credit cards and standard RBC Rewards credit cards that earn RBC Rewards points. Regardless of which cards you have, points can always be redeemed for 1 cent or lower in value for travel, gift cards, merchandise, financial products and statement credits.

If you're an Avion cardholder, you'll have access to two additional redemption options: The RBC Air Travel Redemption Schedule and the ability to transfer points to airline partners. Both of these redemptions allow you to redeem your points for significantly more value than 1 cent per point.

This page primary covers standard RBC Rewards redemptions. You can check out our RBC Avion Points Value page for in-depth details on Avion rewards.

What are RBC Rewards credit cards

RBC offers four standard rewards credit cards. Those cards are:

These are non-Avion credit cards meaning that you will not have access to the RBC Air Travel Redemptions Schedule and you will not be able to transfer points to additional airline partners. Both of these options offer significantly higher redemption value than what is available to the standard rewards credit cards.

If you're big on travel and want to get the most out of your points, you should consider RBC Avion Rewards.

How much are RBC Rewards points worth?

RBC Rewards points for non-Avion cardholders are worth 1 cent each on average. This means 10,000 points will have a cash value of $100.

You can obtain 1 cent in value redeeming points for travel and charity donations. You can also get around the same value when converting RBC points to WestJet Dollars.

The best value of RBC Rewards points will be for Avion cardholders whom can get 2 to 2.33 cents in value on airfare using the Air Travel Redemption Schedule and high value through additional airline transfer partners like British Airways, American Airlines, and Cathay Pacific.

RBC Rewards points value

Redemption option Redemption value in cents
Air Travel Redemption Schedule for RBC Avion cardholders 2 - 2.33
General travel redemptions through RBC Travel portal 1
Charitable donations 1
Gift card redemptions as an RBC Rewards+ Visa cardholder 1
Using points for merchandise 0.75 - 0.85
Gift card redemptions with all other RBC credit cards 0.71
Redeeming points for statement credits 0.58

Redeeming RBC points for travel

RBC Rewards points are worth 1 cent each when redeemed for general travel purchases within the RBC Travel Portal. 100 points can be converted to $1 CAD in travel value.

This is one of the best redemption option for non-Avion cardholders as most other redemptions will offer less than 1 cent in value.

RBC Air Travel Redemption Schedule

The RBC Air Travel Redemptions Schedule is a special redemption option for Avion-cardholders. It allows you to book one-way and round-trip flights using a set amount of points up to a maximum ticket price.

RBC points redeeming using the RBC Air Travel Redemption Schedule offers an easy 2 to 2.33 cents in value per point. This means 10,000 points would be equal to about $200 to $233 towards airfare.

This is a big difference from the 1 cent in value you'll get with general travel purchases as 10,000 points would only be equal to a flat $100.

How many RBC points do you need for a flight?

You can calculate how many points you need for a flight by multiple the cost by 100. For example, a $250 flight would require 25,000 RBC rewards points.

RBC points transfer

RBC Rewards points can be transferred to Hudson Bay Rewards and WestJet Dollars. 100 RBC Rewards points can be converted to 200 Hudson Bay points or 1 WestJet Dollar which has a cash value of $1 towards WestJet redemptions.

Both of these are even transfers that will give your RBC Rewards points 1 cent in value. That makes these transfer partners just as good as redeeming your points towards travel.

Avion cardholders will have the ability to transfer points to several airline partners in addition to the standard RBC Rewards partners. This includes British Airways, Cathay Pacific, and American Airlines.

Transferring Avion points to these frequent flyer partners can up the value of points to as much as 2 cents or higher, especially with transfers to British Airways.

Other ways to redeem RBC points

Outside of travel, RBC rewards points can be redeemed for merchandise, RBC financial products, gift cards, statement credits, and charitable donations.

Merchandise

RBC Rewards points can be redeemed for merchandise which will give you a range of different values. The average I came up with was about 0.75 to 0.85 cents in value though there are products that offer less and some that offer more.

RBC Financial Products

If you bank with RBC, you can redeem your RBC Rewards points for financial products. This includes investments, mortgage payments, and lines of credit through RBC. Redemptions start at 12,000 RBC Rewards points for a $100 voucher which gives your points a value of 0.83 cents each.

RBC Gift Cards

RBC Rewards points can be redeemed for gift cards starting at 3,500 RBC Rewards points for a $25 gift card. This will give your points a value of 0.71 cents each.

Statement Credit

Redeeming RBC Rewards points for statement credits will give your points the lowest value of 0.58 cents apiece. You can redeem 17,200 points for a $100 credit.

Unless you're cashing out your points to close your account or run into financial hardship, I would avoid this redemption.

Charity

RBC Rewards points can be put towards charity donations at a value of 1 cent per point.
