Qmiles has an average value of 0.8 cents each when put towards awards flights on Qatar Airways, oneworld alliance airlines, and four non-alliance partners. Miles can also be used for excess baggage, shopping online and in-store, award tickets for unaccompanied minors, and a few other things. Most of the redemption values will vary depending on many factors, so you will want to calculate the cash value of your points to make sure you're getting the most out of your Qmiles.
Qatar Qmiles Value Calculator
Use the Qatar Qmiles Value Calculator to calculate the cash value of Qatar Qmiles based on the average value of the listed redemption options. Average values (denoted by '~') are based on how much The Point Calculator values that redemption after some research and number crunching. You can put any value in the field below.
Redeem For Flights
Qatar Qmiles are primarily used for booking award flights on Qatar, oneworld alliance airlines, and a few other select partners. Altogether, you can use Qmiles to book flights on the following airlines:
- American Airlines
- Bangkok Airways
- British Airways
- Cathay Pacific
- Japan Airlines
- Malaysia Airlines
- Middle East Airlines (MEA)
- Qatar Airways
- Royal Air Maroc
- Royal Jordanian
- S7 Airlines
- SriLankan Airlines
Qatar has their own Qcalculator which will calculate how many miles you can earn and how many miles it costs flying Qatar and their partners. They also have a destinations map which gives you an idea of where they fly to.
Those who book award travel with Qatar will be subject to a booking fee. This fee is based on cabin flown and is charged per sector (aka segment) booked and excludes taxes and surcharges. Economy bookings will cost $25, Business $50, and First $75.
Qmiles Plus Cash
If you don't have enough Qmiles in your Privileges Club account to book an award ticket, you can use a combination of Qmiles and cash for your redemption as long as a minimum of 50% of the award ticket is paid in Qmiles. Members who do have enough points are also able to select how many points they want to use for their booking after selecting the flight and cabin class.
Excess Baggage Awards
Privileges Club members can use their earned Qmiles towards excess baggage costs. This can be for bags that weigh between 1kg and 10kg, with the exception of flights to/from the Americas. Excess baggage awards must be redeemed at least six hours prior to departure. The cost of this award will depend on the location.
Other Flight Services
Qmiles can be redeemed for several other flight services through Qatar which includes:
- Upgrades to Business and First Class on Qatar Airways
- Award tickets for an unaccompanied minor (aged 5-15 years)
- Flexi awards for increasing the chance for an award seat during busy periods
Note About Booking Award Flights
Do note that if you do not have Qmiles in your account, you will not be able to look for award flights. Qatar also has a slightly difficult to operate website. Make sure that if you do create a Privileges Club account, that you enter in enough information to obtain Burgundy level which is the starting tier in their program. If it reads 'basic member' when you're signed in, you haven't completed your account. This could cause a lot of re-logging in and other problems navigating their website.
Shop & Pay With Qmiles
Qmiles can be used to shop online through the Privilege Club eShop. The shop contains more than 600 products that feature beauty, fashion & accessories, toys, electronics, and more. You can pick up the items you've purchases when traveling through Doha at Hamad International Airport or at Oryx Galleria at Qatar Airways Tower 2. You can also make purchases at both of these locations with Qmiles. Hamad International Airport features the Qatar Duty Free which has more than 70 boutiques and the Oryx Galleria, exclusive for Privilege Club members, features 600 branded products.
With so many items to choose from, the value of Qmiles will widely range depending on what you're looking for. I found redemptions as low as 0.2 cents and high as 0.8 cents. You can use the Points and Miles Cash Value Calculator to calculate the cash value of each miles based on the cost in cash and cost in Qmiles.
Other Redemption Options
Outside of what's listed above, you can share Qmiles with family and friends for a fee from Qatar's Buy, Gift, and Transfer Qmiles page. You will need their membership number and last name.
Members can also transfer Qatar Points to Accor Hotels at a 4.5:1 ratio. This means transferring 4,500 Qmiles (about $36 in value) to Accor would give you 1,000 Accor Points (about $20 in value). I would only go this route if you A) have no use for Qmiles and B) love staying at Accor Hotels.
