This page covers step by step instructions on how to add your British Airways Executive Club account to your AMEX Membership Rewards profile and transfer your earned AMEX Points to British Airways Avios.
Things To Know
In order to transfer AMEX Membership Rewards to your British Airways Avios account, there's a few things you have to be aware of. Some of these things are self-explanatory, but I'm here to cover everything.
Membership Rewards Account
In order to transfer Membership Rewards Points, you must have an AMEX Membership Rewards account along with a log-in to use online. If you have an AMEX Membership Rewards credit card, you can go to americanexpress.com to set up your online account.
British Airways Executive Club Account
You'll need to have a British Airways Executive Club account in order to receive the points you're transferring. If you don't have an account, you'll need to create one at britishairways.com.
British Airways Membership Number
In order to add British Airways to your AMEX Membership Rewards account, you'll need your British Airways Executive Club Membership number. When logged into your British Airways account, you can click on your name in the upper right hand corner.
You'll land on your profile page. In the middle of the page, under your status level, you'll see your Membership Number listed. Copy that number down.
How To Transfer
If you're ready to transfer AMEX Points to BA Avios, these are the steps to follow.
Log In To AMEX Account
The first step is to log into your Membership Rewards accounts. You can do this by going to americanexpress.com. Before you log in, change the drop down on the main AMEX page to 'Membership Rewards'. Once you do that, enter your User ID and Password. You can then click 'Log In'.
Head To 'Transfer Points'
Once you're logged in, you'll land on the Membership Rewards page which lists a bunch of tabs detailing the ways you can redeem your rewards. Click on the tab that says Transfer Points.
You should now be able to click 'View All' to get a list of transfer partners.
Link Your British Airways Account
You'll need your American Express Membership Rewards account and British Airways Executive account linked in order to transfer points.
If you've already linked your British Airways Executive Club account to your Membership Rewards, find British Airways under 'Your loyalty programs', click on 'Transfer Points', and jump down to step 4.
If you haven't linked your British Airways account, you'll need to do so. Underneath the 'Select A Loyalty Program To Link' option, find British Airways Executive Club and click it.
The first think you'll need to do is select a card holder to link. This page should list yourself as well as authorized users that may be on various accounts linked to your AMEX Membership Rewards account.
If you're linking your own British Airways Executive Club account, select your name from the list. If you're linking someone else's British Airways Executive Club account, select their name from the list. The card holder you're linking and the name on the British Airways Executive Club account must match.
After you select a card holder, you'll need to verify your card. The card you select will not matter, just make sure it's a credit card that you have handy as you'll need the 4-digit code on the front of the card and the 3-digit code found on the back.
Once you enter the security codes, you'll need to enter your British Airways Executive Club account number. Double check to make sure it's correct. If it is, click 'Link Account'.
If everything is good, you'll get a message saying that you've successfully linked your account. You can then click 'Continue To Transfer Points'.
Transfer AMEX Points To BA Avios
You should now be on the British Airways Executive Club transfer page. It should list the name and account number you're transferring the points to. At the bottom, you can specify how many AMEX Membership Rewards Points you want to transfer to British Airways Avios. You can transfer to BA Avios in 1,000-point increments. The maximum amount of points you can transfer is 999,000 Avios.
After you select how many points you wish to transfer, you'll need to agree to the terms and conditions and click 'Confirm & Transfer Points'.
You should get confirmation that you've successfully transfer points to your British Airways account. Points should post to your account pretty quickly. You should be able to log back into your British Airways Executive Club account at britishairways.com and see the transfer reflected in your balance.
Transferring AMEX Membership Rewards Points to your British Airways Executive Club account can help build up your Avios balance pretty fast. I recommend browsing AMEX's Membership Rewards Credit Cards to find out which cards are best for you. If you're looking for more ways to earn British Airways Avios, you should check out British Airways Travel Partners as well as Avios Credit Cards.
