It earns 4x across both categories which is an easy 4% return up to a 8%+ return when transferring points to AMEX's travel partners. It has a $250 price tag, but it comes with an annual $100 towards airline incidentals and $120 in dining credits split up int $10 per month.
American Express Everyday Preferred Card
While the AMEX Everyday Preferred doesn't earn a high rate on restaurant spend, it does offer the highest rate of up to 4.5x on grocery if you make 30 transactions during a statement period. You can earn up to 1.5x on non-category purchases which is not bad. The Preferred has a $6,000 spend cap on grocery, so if you spend more than $500 per month this card will not be the best of choices.

If you crave cash back, the rewards and returns will be slightly lower. The Bank of America Cash Rewards Card offers the ability to earn between 3% and 5.25% cash back on a single category of your choosing. The more money you have invest with Bank of America, the higher amount of cash back you will receive. Other great no-annual fee options consist of the Capital One Savor One Card and PNC Cash Rewards Card in which both cards earn 3% back on dining and 2% back on grocery.
