When it comes to building a solid amount of ThankYou Points, your best best is going to be combining the Citi ThankYou Rewards+ Card with either the Citi Prestige or Citi Premier Card. Both the Prestige and Premier offer excellent benefits and both are worth the price tag. But which one is better? As usual, it's going to depend on your spend and travel habits.

Bonus Categories

The Citi Prestige Card features four bonus categories. Those bonus categories are airfare, dining, hotels, and cruise line purchases. There is no cap on any of the Prestige Card's bonus categories and there is no limit to the amount of ThankYou Points you can earn with the card.

The Citi ThankYou Premier Card has three bonus categories which are travel, dining, and entertainment. There is no cap on any of the Premier Card's bonus categories and there is no limit to the amount of ThankYou Points you can earn with the cards.

Citi Prestige

    • Airfare must be purchased directly with the airline.

    • Includes cafes, bars, lounges, and fast food restaurants.

Perks & Benefits

The Citi Prestige Card features it's popular 4th night free benefit along with an annual travel credit and several other premium travel benefits. The Citi Premier is considered one of Citi's premium credit cards since it allows you to transfer points to Citi's partners, but it does not feature any special perks outside of that.

Citi Prestige

  • Complimentary 4th Night Free Perk
    • Must book 4 consecutive nights at any hotel through ThankYou.com.
    • Can be used twice per year.
  • Priority Pass Membership
    • Applies to primary and authorized users of the Citi Prestige Card.
    • Maximum of up to two guests or immediate family members (spouse, domestic partner and/or children under 18 years of age).
    • Additional guests will cost $27 per guest, per visit.

    • Applies to all purchases that Citi considers to be travel which includes:

Sign Up Bonus (SUB)

The standard sign up bonus for the Citi Prestige Card is 50,000 points after spending $4,000 within the first 3 months of account opening. This has a value of $500 when redeemed directly with Citi, but can be worth much more when transferred to Citi's airline partners.

The standard sign up bonus for the Citi Premier Card is 60,000 points after making $4,000 in purchases with your card within the first 3 months of account opening. This is worth an easy $600 which is slightly higher than the Citi Prestige.

Fees

The annual fee for the Citi Prestige Card is $495, but this can be easily be covered with the $250 annual travel credit, the high earning rates, and proper usage of the Complimentary 4th Night Free benefit. The annual fee for the Citi Premier Card is $0 the first year, then $95 annually. Anyone who spends a great deal on travel category can easily make up for the $95 fee.

The Citi Prestige Card has an authorized user fee of $50 per additional user while the Citi Premier's is $0. If you have friends or family that across the categories featured on either card, adding additional users can easily be worth it since you'll earn points at a faster rate.

The Citi Prestige and Citi Premier have a 0% foreign transaction fee. This means that both cards are great for international travel and spending.
