How to calculate Hilton Honors points per stay

To find your total Hilton points, use this three-layer calculation:

Total Points = Base Points + Elite Points + Card Points

Step-by-step breakdown:

  1. Find your Base Rate: Most Hilton brands earn 10 points per $1, but a few select brands earn at 5X or 3X points per $1 spent.
  2. Calculate the Elite Bonus: Elite bonus points are calculated as a percentage of your base points only (taxes and fees are excluded).
    • Silver: 20% bonus (12 points per $1 total at 10X brands)
    • Gold: 80% bonus (18 points per $1 total at 10X brands)
    • Diamond: 100% bonus (20 points per $1 total at 10X brands)
    • Diamond Reserve (2026): 120% bonus (22 points per $1 total at 10X brands)
  3. Add Hilton Credit Card Earnings: If you pay with a Hilton co-branded credit card, you can earn up to an additional 14 points per $1 on the total folio (including taxes and fees).

The table below shows how many Hilton Honors points can be earned on a $500 base rate with $50 in taxes/fees ($550 total folio) by status tier.

Membership tiers assume the following credit card setup:

Note: Hilton credit cards earn on the full folio, so taxes and fees add an extra 350 to 700 points ($50 × 7x-14x) for every tier. Taxes and fees do not count toward base points or elite bonus points.

Hilton Honors Points Per Stay 2026
Status Tier Pts/$1 (Base + Status) Pts/$1 with Card Total Pts on $500 Stay
Member (No Card) 10 0 5,000
Silver (Hilton AMEX) 12 19 9,850
Gold (Surpass/Biz) 18 30 15,600
Diamond (Aspire) 20 34 17,700
Diamond Reserve (Aspire) 22 36 18,700

Hilton base points: Earn up to 10x per dollar

Hilton Honors members earn 10 points per $1 spent on the base rate at most Hilton properties. So a hotel with a base price of $200 would earn you 2,000 Hilton Honors Points.

The only exception to this is when staying at Tru, Home2 Suites, Spark, and Homewood Suites in which you'll earn 5 points per $1 spent, and at LivSmart Studios in which you'll earn 3 points per $1 spent.

Here's the breakdown:

Hilton Points Per Night By Brand
Hilton Brand Points Per Dollar
LivSmart Studios 3 points per $1
Home2 Suites, Tru, Spark, and Homewood Suites 5 points per $1 spent
All other Hilton brands (Hilton, Conrad, Waldorf Astoria, DoubleTree, Hampton, etc.) 10 points per $1

Base points are earned on the base rate of the hotel and any other eligible room charges made to the hotel including room service and telephone calls. You will not earn Hilton base points for taxes, fees, or surcharges.

You will also not earn points on award/free nights since the base rate for the stay would be $0. You will still earn points on any other eligible room charges though.

Hilton elite status bonuses

Hilton Honors members with elite status will earn up to a 120% point bonus on the base rate. This equals up to an additional 12 points per $1 spent at Hilton brand hotels.

Here's the breakdown by status:

Hilton Elite Status Point Bonus
Level Bonus Bonus Points Per $1
Hilton Honors Member No Bonus No Bonus Points
Hilton Honors Silver 20% Bonus 2 Bonus Points
Hilton Honors Gold 80% Bonus 8 Bonus Points
Hilton Honors Diamond 100% Bonus 10 Bonus Points
Hilton Honors Diamond Reserve 120% Bonus 12 Bonus Points

So the higher your status, the more points you'll earn spending at Hilton brand hotels.

As an example, a hotel stay at a full service brand (10x) with a base rate of $200 per night would earn you the following based on status:

  • Member (No Bonus): 10 base points * $200 = 2,000 points
  • Silver (20%): 10 base points + 20% bonus = 12pts/$1 * $200 = 2,400 points
  • Gold (80%): 10 base points + 80% bonus = 18pts/$1 * $200 =  3,600 points
  • Diamond (100%): 10 base points + 100% bonus = 20pts/$1 * $200 = 4,000 points
  • Diamond Reserve (120%): 10 base points + 120% bonus = 12pts/$1 * $200 = 4,400 points

That's a 2,200 difference in points between having no status and having top-tier status in the Hilton Honors program.

Shortcuts to status:

Each of Hilton's co-branded credit cards offer complimentary status ranging from Silver up to Diamond. This means you can have almost top-tier status by just holding a credit card—no hotel stays required.

If you frequent Hilton hotels, it can easily be worth picking up one of their cards depending on the perks you find benefits you best.

Hilton credit card points: Up to 14x points on full stay

Paying with a Hilton-branded credit card adds extra Hilton points on top of your base and elite bonuses—up to 14 points per $1 at Hilton properties. Unlike base/elite points, card points typically apply to the full charge (room + taxes/fees) because your folio posts as a single card transaction.

Here are the earning rates for Hilton's co-branded credit cards when spending at Hilton brand hotels:

Hilton Cards Earning Rates at Hilton
Credit Card Points Per $1 at Hilton
Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card 14 Points
Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card 12 Points
Hilton Honors American Express Business Card 12 Points
Hilton Honors American Express Card 7 Points

Do note that credit card points post after your statement closes whereas base and elite points post a few days after completing a stay.

Example: Points Earned on a $200 Night

If you spend $200 on a room at a standard brand (like a Hilton or DoubleTree) and have Diamond status while paying with the Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card, here is how your points per night are calculated:

  • Base Points (10x): $200 x 10 = 2,000 points
  • Diamond Elite Bonus (100%): 2,000 x 1.00 = 2,000 points
  • Credit Card Points (12x): $220 (includes estimated taxes) x 12 = 2,640 points
  • Total for one night: 6,640 points

Frequently asked questions

How many Hilton points do you earn per stay?

Hilton points per stay are based on how much you spend and your bonuses: you earn base points on eligible charges, an elite status bonus on those base points, and extra points if you pay with a Hilton credit card. Multiply your total eligible spend by your combined points-per-dollar rate to estimate your total Hilton points per stay.

How many Hilton points do you earn per dollar?

At most Hilton brands you earn 10 Hilton Honors points per dollar, while Tru, Home2 Suites, Spark, and Homewood Suites earn 5 points per dollar, and new brands like LivSmart Studios earn 3 points per dollar on eligible folio charges. Elite status and Hilton credit cards add more points on top of these base rates.

How are Hilton points calculated on a stay?

Hilton points are calculated as base points by brand + elite bonus on those base points + any points from a Hilton co-branded credit card you use to pay. Promotions and special offers can add even more bonus points on top of that total.

How many Hilton points per dollar can I earn with elite status?

Silver, Gold, Diamond, and Diamond Reserve elites earn 20%, 80%, 100%, and 120% bonus points on top of base earnings, respectively, which means 12, 18, 20, or 22 points per dollar at 10x brands before you add any credit card points.

How do Hilton credit cards increase how many points I earn per stay?

Hilton Honors American Express cards can earn up to 14x Hilton points per dollar on eligible Hilton purchases, and those card points stack on top of your base and elite points from the stay itself. Using a Hilton card at a Hilton hotel can dramatically boost your total points per stay.

What’s the maximum number of Hilton points I can earn per dollar on a stay?

At many standard 10x brands, a top-tier elite member paying with a 14x Hilton credit card can reach 36 Hilton points per dollar (10 base + 12 elite bonus + 14 from the card) before any promos. Your exact total depends on the brand, your status level, and which card you use.

How can I estimate how many Hilton points I’ll earn on my next stay?

The easiest way is to use a Hilton points calculator or estimator that factors in your nightly rate, number of nights, taxes/fees, brand earning rate, elite status, and Hilton credit card. Enter those details into our Hilton points calculator on this page to see total points, plus points per dollar and per stay.
