The IHG Premier Card is a step up from the IHG Traveler Card and offers additional benefits. It earns 10x IHG Points on IHG spend which is double the amount of the Traveler Card. The Premier Card also offers complimentary IHG Platinum Elite Status which offers 50% bonus points, rollover nights, room upgrades, and more. As with the IHG Traveler Card, you'll also receive access to the 4th night free benefit. Best of all, the IHG Premier Card offers an annual free night at any IHG hotel that costs 40,000 points or lower. This benefit alone is worth picking up the card as you can easily get more than $89 in value out of the free night if used properly.

My Opinion

If you're trying to decide between the IHG Traveler and IHG Premier Card, the two things to take into consideration is the earnings on IHG spend and the annual free night benefit offered on the Premier Card.

If you don't have elite status with IHG, the complimentary status both cards provide along with the earnings on IHG spend will play a major role in the value of either card. Here's the breakdown of IHG Points earned:

  • IHG Traveler Card - 16 IHG Points
    • 10 IHG Base Points
    • 5 Points From IHG Traveler Card
    • 1 Point From 10% Bonus for IHG Gold Elite members
  • IHG Premier Card - 25 IHG Points
    • 10 IHG Base Points
    • 10 Points From IHG Premier Card
    • 5 Points From 50% Bonus for IHG Platinum Elite members

The other big plus is the annual free night benefit offered on the Premier Card. This benefit allows you to stay at any IHG Hotel that costs 40,000 IHG Points or lower. Most stays at IHG hotels will cost you more than the $89 fee offered on the card which means you can easily get that much value or more out of the free night.

Overall, I recommend going for the IHG Premier Card just due to the higher earnings and annual free night. You can use the IHG Point Calculator below to calculate the cash value of both cards with your IHG spend, the value of the free night benefit to you, and the annual fees.
