How This Points Per Stay Calculator Works

The Marriott Bonvoy Points points per stay calculator estimates how many points you'll earn on a hotel stay based on your spend, brand, elite status, and (when applicable) a co-branded credit card.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter your base room cost (before taxes and fees).
  2. If available, enter taxes and fees. This field may be hidden for programs that don't have co-branded cards since taxes/fees are only used for calculating eligible credit card spend.
  3. If available, choose the hotel brand. Some brands earn a different base rate than others.
  4. If the program offers it, select your elite status (or model a status tier). If a selected co-branded card includes complimentary status, the calculator will apply the highest eligible tier.
  5. If available, select the co-branded credit card you'll use to pay for the stay.
The calculator then estimates your earnings and shows:
  • Base points earned: base earning rate × base room cost (before taxes/fees)
  • Elite bonus: bonus points earned from your selected elite tier (based on base points)
  • Credit card points: points earned from paying with the selected co-branded card
  • Total Marriott Bonvoy Points: estimated total points earned from base + elite + card rewards

If you're paying in a different currency, you can choose a conversion option and the calculator will convert amounts as needed.

This calculator provides estimates. Actual earnings may vary by brand, region, promotions, and (when applicable) exchange rates.

Where these numbers come from

Earning rates are pulled directly from the hotel program's website whenever possible. Programs typically publish base earning rates by brand, elite-status bonus rules, and (when available) the points you can earn using co-branded credit cards on eligible stays.

How it's calculated

Points earned per stay are calculated using:

  • Total points earned = base points + elite status bonus + co-branded card points

Here's what each part means:

  • Base points: Every program earns a set number of points per $1 (or local equivalent) spent on eligible charges. Some programs use different base rates depending on the hotel brand.
  • Elite status bonus: Many programs add bonus points based on your elite tier. This is typically a percentage of base points.
    Example: If the base rate is 10 points per $1 and your tier earns a 20% bonus, that's an extra 2 points per $1 (10 × 0.20 = 2).
  • Credit card points: If you pay with a co-branded credit card, you can earn additional points on top of base and elite earnings. The rate depends on the specific card and the program's eligible purchase rules.
