If you're traveling through Columbus Airport, you may be looking into transportation and local hotels. If you're flying out of Columbus Airport, information like parking costs and airline terminals/concourses may be of importance to you. Regardless of whether you're coming or going, this page details some key information about traveling through John Glenn International Airport in Columbus, Ohio. You'll find information on traffic, parking, local hotels, rental cars, transportation, and more.
Directions, Traffic, and Location
John Glenn Columbus International Airport, formerly known as Port Columbus International Airport, is an airport located about 6 miles east of downtown Columbus, Ohio.
Directions To Columbus Airport
There are two main entrances to the Columbus Airport. The main road is International Gateway and it can be access either by taking exit 9 on I-670 or by coming down Stelzer road from the north or south. The back entrance can be access off of Hamilton Road (OH-317). You can get to Hamilton off of I-270 by taking exit 37. Once you get off at the exit, you will want to head south. After passing a traffic light for Swanson/Tech Center Dr, you will see Sawyer Rd on your right (with a golf course being on the left).
Airport and Surrounding Area Traffic
During the work week, the traffic on I-670 is heavy between the hours of 6am to 9am and the hours of 3pm and 6pm (EST; local time). There is currently road construction at the I-670/I-270 intersection which adds to the traffic as well. If you have a flight departing between those high traffic hours, I highly recommend you give yourself a little bit of extra time. If you're coming from south I-270, I recommend taking the back entrance to the airport via Hamilton Road (OH-317) as you will encounter less traffic.
Columbus Airport Address
John Glenn Columbus Airport has an address of 4600 International Gtwy, Columbus, OH 43219. This will usually take you to the main entrance of the airport, but if your map takes traffic into account, it could take you the back way using Sawyer Rd.
Busyness and Terminals
Port Columbus Airport has three concourses that offers flights with eight airlines. The airport has a pretty open design with all of the airline check-in counters being on the same floor. I fly out of CMH quite frequently and when I do it's around 5am-7am that I'm at the airport. Probably about 75% of the time, there's no long lines and the check-in process is simple. I fly Delta, but when you walk into the airport you can see the lines for all of the airlines and they're never really that long. There has been days in which it has been busy, but nothing that would make you risk missing your flight if you got to the airport an hour or two before your flight (as you're supposed to do).
Columbus Airport PreCheck
Columbus Airport does have PreCheck lines, but sometimes they may be closed if the TSA is lacking in staff for that particular time of day. I've only seen this happen once, but my wife used to work for TSA at CMH and has mentioned them closing the line several times.
Airlines and Concourses
Columbus airport services eight airlines which consists of almost all of the major U.S. airlines. Each airline has it's own assigned gates so if you're a frequent traveler of any particular airline through CMH, you'll always end up in the same general area. Each airline also has it's own assigned baggage claim belt so if you're arriving at CMH, you'll end up going to the same belt every time.
The following airlines service Columbus:
Columbus Airport Parking Options
There's no shortage of parking at Columbus Airport. There's multiple lots and garages that are affiliated directly with the airport as well as a few parking companies on the outskirts of the airport.
Port Columbus has several parking lots and garages that you can choose from. They feature everything from covered lots to valet to bicycle lots. When parking at any of the airport lots, you will receive a ticket/voucher before passing through the gate. You will use that same ticket/voucher to exit the lot. Do note that your license plate number is usually displayed on the ticket (taken by the camera when you enter the lot). So you will not be able to exit the lot using a ticket that is not assigned to your plate (the camera is also on your plate when exiting).
Columbus Airport parking lots takes all major payment types (VISA, MC, DISCOVER, AMEX), but you can pull up to the window to pay cash as well. Do note that you will not be charged if you enter the lot and end up leaving shortly afterwards. I've driven a rental car into the lot many times to transport luggage to/from my car. Once I'm done, I enter the voucher into the machine and I'm not charged. I'm never in the lot for more than 15-20 minutes.
Below are the options you have that are tied directly to parking through Columbus Airport.
The Columbus Airport Green Lot is the farthest away from the airport and is the cheapest option for those looking to park their car for a long period of time. Green Lot has multiple shuttle pick up locations. Shuttles come around pretty often, but I'd recommend bundling up if you're parking out in the Green Lot during the winter months.
Green Lot parking is $5 per 24-hour period. The address you can use for Columbus Airport Green Lot is: 3256 E. 17th Avenue, Columbus, OH 43219.
The Columbus Airport Red Lot is another great option that will not set flames to your wallet. It's located on the east side of Stelzer and is actually considered to be on the airport grounds. Like the Green Lot, it is uncovered and none of the bus stops have (working) heat, so bundle well during the winter months.
Red Lot parking is $2 for the first hour, $1 for each additional hour, and $7 maximum per 24-hour period. The address you can use for the Columbus Airport Red Lot is: 3795 International Gateway, Columbus, OH 43219.
The Columbus Airport Blue Lot is the closest lot that is not connected to the airport terminals. Blue Lot offers both uncovered and covered parking. Shuttles to and from the airport terminals is just as consistent as the other parking lots. Winter time? Bundle up.
Blue Lot parking for uncovered spaces is $2 for the first hour, $1 for each additional hour, and $9 max for each 24-hour period. Blue Lot covered parking is $3 for the first hour, $1 for each additional hour, and $10 max for each 24-hour period. The address you can use for the Columbus Airport Blue Lot is: 3939 International Gateway, Columbus, OH 43219.
Long Term Garage
The Columbus Airport Long Term Garage is available for those who want to be directly at the terminal and not be subjected to the extremes of Columbus weather (hot or cold). The Long Term Garage is located on levels 3 through 6 with levels 1 and 2 hosting the car rental agencies. This garage also has EV charging stations on level 5.
Long Term parking is $5 for the first hour, $3 for each additional hour, and $20 max per 24-hour period. The Columbus Airport Long Term Garage is basically located at the main terminal, but you can use address: 4600 International Gateway, Columbus, OH 43219.
Short Term Garage
If you're only going to be at the airport for a short period of time and want to be close to the terminal, the Short Term Garage is for you. This area is located on level 4 and is in the same garage as Long Term and the car rental agencies. Parking for 24-hours is available at this garage, but since that's not what it's meant to be used for it's more expensive than the Long-Term garage.
Short Term Garage parking is $5 for the first hour, $3 for each additional hour, and $30 max per 24-hour period. Columbus Airport Short Term Garage has the same address as the main terminal which is: 4600 International Gateway, Columbus, OH 43219.
The walking lot is for those who want to get some steps in before their flight or maybe don't want to wait/rely on a shuttle for transportation to the lot. Regardless of the reason, this lot is located a few steps from the airport and is around a 7 or so minute walk. This lot is not covered so be sure to bundle up and wear some good shoes if you're traveling during the winter months.
Walking Lot parking is $5 for the first hour, $3 for each additional hour, and $13 max per 24-hour period. This lot is located next to Fairfield Inn & Suites. The address you can use for Columbus Walking Lot Parking is: 4370 International Gateway, Columbus, OH 43219.
If you're in a hurry or just like the luxury of VIP services, you can use Columbus Airport's Valet option. This is the most expensive of the 24-hour rates (assuming you're not using Short Term for Long Term parking). It's available 24/7 and also offers EV charging stations.
Valet parking is $10 for the first hour, $2 for each additional hour, and $24 max per 24-hour period. Columbus Airport Valet has same address as the main terminal which is: 4600 International Gateway, Columbus, OH 43219.
Other CMH Parking Lots
Columbus offers a complimentary cell phone waiting lot. If you're at the airport to pick up someone, this is the lot you will park in while waiting. It's conveniently located 1 minute away from the terminal so the person you're picking up can merely text you when they walk outside the terminal. The Columbus Cell Phone Lot address is: 4229 International Gateway, Columbus, OH 43219.
For those who want to really get their exercise in, Columbus has Bicycle Parking. This rack is located inside the main terminal near the Southwest skycap station. You can use the same address as the main terminal which is: 4600 International Gateway, Columbus, OH 43219.
Columbus Airport Parking Companies
If you want to park your car with a shuttle/transportation company instead of in a lot serviced by Columbus Airport, there are only a few options available.
The Parking Spot
The Parking Spot is a very popular option at the Columbus Airport. It offers a range of prices that are overall cheaper than parking at Columbus Airport. They have everything from uncovered to valet parking. If you're looking to save money, I recommend looking into parking with them. Also be sure to sign up for a Spot Club account to avoid the $4.95 fee they charge guests and to receive benefits such as parking deals, discounts, and free car washes.
The Parking Spot is located at: 1399 Stelzer Rd, Columbus, OH 43219.
OhPark Airport Parking
OhPark Airport Parking is another option for those parking at Columbus Airport. Prices are reasonable and generally cheaper than parking directly at the airport. They offer self-park, valet, and premium valet. You can also add additional services such as car washes, car detailing, and even oil and filter service.
OhPark Airport Parking is located at: 840 Stelzer Road, Columbus, OH 43219.
Columbus Airport Car Rentals and Rideshares
If you need to rent a car or you're trying to get to/from the airport, there are plenty of options. Columbus Airport features all of the major rental car companies you've come to know and love while also providing service from both Uber and Lyft.
Airport Car Rental Options
There are eight car rental options available at Columbus Airport. When picking up a rental from Columbus Airport, you'll find the service counters for the car rental agencies on the first floor (ground floor) of the parking garage attached to the main terminal (same garage that Short/Long Term parking is located). When dropping off your rental, you'll drop off your car on either the first or second floor of the terminal depending on which car rental agency you book with.
If you're renting with one of the agencies at the airport, I recommend signing up for their rewards programs. If you're renting cars, you may as well be rewarded for it. You can also earn some additional cash back on top of your booking when going through a cash back portal such as Rakuten.
