The card offers a very nice 5% discount on Barnes and Noble purchases in-store and online. This discount is in addition to any other discounts you may receive such as having a Barnes and Noble Membership or using various coupons. With the card having no annual fee, you will want to heavily consider this card if you spend money with Barnes and Noble frequently.

Bonus Categories

The Barnes & Noble Mastercard features two bonus categories which is Barnes and Noble purchases and restaurant purchases. Spending at Barnes & Noble will earn you a discount while restaurant purchases will earn you Barnes and Noble Points. There's no limit to the amount of times you can use the discount and no limit to the amount of bonus points you can earn spending at restaurants. All other purchases on the card will earn points and there's no limit to how many you can earn.

  • 2x Restaurant
  • 1x Non-Category
  • 0x Barnes and Noble
    • You will not earn Barnes and Noble Points on purchases made in-store or online with Barnes and Noble.
    • You'll earn a discount on purchases (see next section).

Perks & Benefits

The Barnes and Noble Mastercard offers you a 5% discount on purchases made in-store and online as well as the ability to spend your way to Barnes and Noble membership.

  • 5% Barnes and Noble Discount
    • Receive 5% back in the form of a statement credit.
    • You do not earn Barnes and Noble Points on these purchases.
  • Barnes and Noble Membership
    • Spend $7,500+ during the calendar year and receive 12-month Barnes and Noble Membership; normally costs $25 per year.
    • If you already have membership, it will be extended by 12 months.

If you don't have a Barnes and Noble membership, you would be better off buying the membership rather than spending your way to one. Barnes and Noble membership offers:

  • 40% off the list price of the current hardcover Barnes & Noble Store Bestsellers
  • 10% off the marked Barnes & Noble sale price of other eligible items
  • Free Standard Shipping with no Minimum purchase
  • Various coupons for additional savings sent throughout the year

There's no reason to spend $7,500 without a membership and miss out on all of the discounts and savings listed above. You would earn a lot more than $25 if you were to buy the membership then spend $7,500 on the card assuming most of the spend is Barnes and Noble related purchases.

Sign Up Bonus (SUB)

The standard sign up bonus for the Barnes and Noble Mastercard is a $25 Barnes and Noble gift card after your first purchase. This gift card will be mailed to you once you satisfy this easy requirement.

Annual Fee

The Barnes and Noble Mastercard does not have an annual fee which is great considering you can earn 5% back on your purchases.

Authorized User Fee

There is no fee to add authorized users to the Barnes and Noble Mastercard. If you have friends or family that frequently visit Barnes and Noble, I recommend adding them as authorized users so that everyone can partake in the 5% discount.

Foreign Transaction Fee

The foreign transaction fee for the Barclaycard Barnes and Noble is 3%. Any spend on this card out of country will gobble away the rewards you've earned. Since Barnes and Noble is a U.S.-based store, there's no reason to use this card internationally.
