Redeeming points for travel
Redeeming Wells Fargo Points for travel will give your Go Far Rewards a value of between 1 and 1.5 cents each. This will depend on which Wells Fargo credit cards you own.
When you redeem your Go Far Rewards Points towards airfare booked through the Wells Fargo travel portal, you'll get a value of 1 cent per point, but Wells Fargo members who have the Wells Fargo Visa Signature Card will receive a 50% boost to airfare redemptions which equals 1.5 cents in value.
This means if you're looking to maximize the value of Go Far Rewards Points, having both the Wells Fargo Visa Signature and Propel AMEX should be your goal. Flights booked through their portal will show you the airfare cost in both points and cash.
Redeeming for other forms of travel
Go Far Rewards Points are worth 1 cents each when used to book general travel. This includes:
- Car Rentals
All of these redemptions are booked directly though the Wells Fargo travel portal. You can also use your points towards vacation packages, sporting and special events, and custom getaways, but these choice will require calling Go Far Rewards customer service number on your card or statement.
Do note that certain fees and taxes will still apply when booking travel with Go Far Rewards Points. This includes but is not limited to:
- Excise Tax
- Occupancy Tax
- Room Tax
- Sales and Use Tax
- Value-added Tax
- Other Similar Taxes
Other ways to redeem
Wells Fargo Points can be redeemed for cash back, gift cards, and merchandise. These redemptions will give your points a value of 1 cent or lower.
Cash back redemptions
Go Far Rewards Points can be redeemed for cash redemptions at a rate of 1 cent per point starting at 2,500 points for $25. Cash redemption options include a deposit or credit to a qualifying redemption account, a paper check, or cash visa a withdraw from a Wells Fargo ATM.
A qualifying account is considered to be an eligible Wells Fargo account and they do not count as a payment.
Being able to redeem your Go Far Rewards Points for cash deposits means that you can basically use your points towards whatever you want and still receive great value.
This is the best route to take if you don't plan on using your points towards travel. While travel will give you the best value, earning the equivalent of a 3% return across the categories featured on the no-annual fee Wells Fargo Propel AMEX is pretty good.
Gift card redemptions
Go Far Rewards Points can be redeemed for hundreds of gift cards through the Go Far Rewards Catalog. Most redemptions will give you a value of 1 cent per point, but they do feature promotions from time to time which can give you a slightly higher return. Redemptions start at 2,500 points for a $25 gift card for most gift card options. Gift card options you can choose from features the following categories:
- Charitable Organizations
- Fuel and Auto
- Gourmet and Floral
- Grocery & Pharmacy
- Moves and Entertainment
- Multi-Brand Cards
- Online and Gaming
- Retail Stores
- Salon and Spa
- Subscription Services
- Travel and Experience
Go Far Rewards Points can be redeemed for merchandise such as electronics, jewelry, sporting goods, home & garden, and much more. Point value for merchandise redemptions will vary, but most of the items I found were between 0.65 and 0.75 cents per point.
You can also make purchases directly with several big name brands and retailers such as Samsung, Sonos, Best Buy, Apple, The North Face, and the NFL Fan Shop.
Unless you can find a redemption that gives you 1 cent or higher in value, I recommend avoiding redeeming points for merchandise.
Great alternatives would be redeeming your points towards a gift card and then using that gift card to purchase merchandise or you can redeem your Go Far Rewards Points for a cash deposit and use that cash to purchase merchandise.
Both options will typically give you a lot more value than redeeming your points directly though their portal.
