What the United Quest Card calculator works out

This is an interactive calculator for the United Quest Card. It estimates how many United MileagePlus Miles the card earns from your own spending, what those miles are worth at a valuation you set, and what the card is worth across a year once benefits and the annual fee are accounted for. The figures below are the card's published rates; enter your spending to replace them with your own numbers.

United Quest Card earning rates

The calculator applies these rates to the spending you enter, dropping to the lower rate automatically once a cap is reached.

Spending category Rate Cap
Renowned Hotels and Resorts 5X No cap
United Airlines 4X No cap
Travel (General) 2X No cap
Restaurant / Dining 2X No cap
Streaming Services 2X No cap
Everything Else 1X No cap

Example: United Quest Card earnings on Renowned Hotels and Resorts

Putting $1,000 a month into Renowned Hotels and Resorts ($12,000 a year) with the United Quest Card earns about 60,000 United MileagePlus Miles a year. At a baseline of 1.30¢ per mile, that's about $780 in value, against $350 in annual fee. You can set your own value per mile in the calculator. Change the spending figures to work this out for your own budget across every category at once.

Credits and benefits you can adjust

Benefits are worth different amounts to different people, so the calculator lets you set your own value for each of these rather than assuming one:

  • Two Free Checked Bags — enter your own value. You and one companion on the same reservation each receive your first and second checked bags free on United-operated flights.
  • $200 United Travel Credit — enter your own value. Get a $200 United travel credit after account opening and on each account anniversary.

  • Second 10,000-mile award discount on spend — included by default, and can be excluded. Spend $20,000 on purchases in a calendar year and you earn an additional 10,000-mile award flight discount, separate from the anniversary one.
  • 2 Economy Plus upgrades — enter your own value. Spend $40,000 on purchases in a calendar year and you'll earn 2 credits to upgrade an Economy seat to Economy Plus on eligible United or United Express flights.

How the United Quest Card result is calculated

Net annual value = (United MileagePlus Miles earned from your spending × your value per mile) + the value you assign to the card's credits and benefits − the $350 annual fee.

United MileagePlus Miles start at a baseline of 1.30¢ each. That figure is a starting point, not a fixed rate — the calculator lets you replace it with your own.

Every input is adjustable: spending per category, the value of a single mile, what each credit or benefit is worth to you, and whether to count the intro bonus. Up to 10 cards or multi-card wallets can be compared side by side, and each card can be set to earn a different rewards currency, including any of the 1 program United MileagePlus Miles transfer to — so a card can be valued at what its miles are worth after a transfer rather than at the baseline rate.

How This Credit Card Rewards Calculator Works

This tool uses a Net Value framework to estimate what you earn minus the costs of holding the card, based on your inputs.

  • The formula: Net Value = ((Rewards Earned from Spend × Value per miles) + Perk Value) − (Annual Fee + Foreign Transaction Fees)
If you include intro bonuses in the calculator, they're added to annual value using the same miles valuation you set.
  • Total customization: Baseline estimates may pre-fill for convenience, but you can override values (valuations, spend, perks, and fees) to match your strategy.
  • Perk valuation: Benefits may default to full, partial, or zero value depending on how easy they are to use. You should adjust each perk to a "utilization value" based on what you realistically save.
  • Transfer modeling: For transferable rewards, conversions are modeled using standard ratios for your region. You can adjust ratios to reflect transfer bonuses or recent changes.
  • Verified rates: Default earning multipliers and fees are based on current issuer/program terms, then your calculator inputs determine the final result.

Frequently asked questions

How does the calculator handle the 10X United earning rate?

It calculates the card's own earning at 4 miles per dollar on United purchases. The 10X United advertises includes 6 miles per dollar of MileagePlus base earning you receive regardless of how you pay, so counting it would overstate what the card contributes.

Why does my total change so much when I toggle credits?

The Quest carries over $850 in partner credits, but only the $200 travel credit posts automatically. The Renowned Hotels, Instacart, rideshare, Avis or Budget and JSX credits all require spending in specific places, and JSX in particular is unusable for most people. Turning off the ones you won't touch is the difference between a marketing number and your number.

Can I compare the Quest against the United Explorer here?

Yes, and it's the comparison most people need. Add the Explorer in a second column to run identical spending through both earning structures with both fee levels applied, then adjust each card's credits to what you'd actually use.

Does the calculator include the award flight discounts?

The anniversary 10,000-mile discount and the second one earned at $20,000 of annual spend can both be valued in the calculator. At the default 1.3 cents per mile, two discounts are worth roughly $260 a year.

What mile value does the calculator use?

1.3 cents per United mile by default, our average valuation, and you can change it. Keep in mind cardmember award pricing takes at least 10% off United award flights, so your effective value on United-operated awards is realistically higher than the default.
