Award flights (1.2 cents per mile)
Asia Miles can be redeemed for your standard everyday award flights at an average value of 1.2 cents per mile, but you can obtain significantly higher value when using them for business and first class flights with Cathay and their partners.
Here are some of the popular redemption options:
- Cathay Pacific First Class to Asia or Europe: 160,000 Asia Miles one-way for any flight over 7,500 miles. JFK–HKG–LHR in first class costs the same as JFK–HKG alone, letting you tack on a free first class leg to Europe. Cathay charges no fuel surcharges on its own flights, just airport taxes.
- Cathay Pacific Business Class long-haul: Around 91,000 Asia Miles one-way for HKG to London and similar ultra long-haul routes. With cash fares often $5,000+, this still clears 5+ cents per mile in value.
- Cathay Pacific Business Class to Sydney/Australia: 58,000 Asia Miles one-way HKG–SYD with reasonable taxes (~$220) versus 70,000+ miles and $700–$1,000 in fees through American Airlines or British Airways for similar routings.
- Japan Airlines Business and First Class: Asia Miles members get access to JAL award seats 360 days out — about a month before AAdvantage or Alaska Mileage Plan opens its booking window. Critical for snagging the limited premium cabin seats JAL releases at schedule open.
- Qatar Airways Qsuites and A380 First Class: Sydney–Doha–London or Paris in Qatar A380 first class for 160,000 miles one-way (longest distance band). Qsuites business class redemptions are also strong, though partner awards do carry fuel surcharges.
- Oneworld Multi-Carrier Award (round-the-world): Often considered the single best use of Asia Miles. Lets you string together flights on 2+ Oneworld partners (excluding Cathay) on one ticket with multiple stopovers, priced on a separate distance-based chart. Ideal for big multi-country trips at a fraction of single-airline pricing.
- Intra-Asia Economy: Short-haul economy redemptions within Asia start at 7,000 Asia Miles one-way — solid value for exploring Southeast or Northeast Asia, especially when paired with a long-haul award as a stopover.
- Short-haul Business Class within Asia: Routes like SIN–HKG run 27,000 miles one-way in business class — one of the spots that actually got cheaper in the May 2026 award chart update.
Hotels & Cars (0.65 - 0.8 cents per mile)
Asia Miles can be redeemed for hotel stays using the Asia Miles Travel Portal. Hotels offer anywhere from 0.65 to 0.8 cents per mile while car rentals stayed close to 0.7 cents per mile.
Lifestyle Awards
Asia Miles can be used to purchases electronics, beauty products, sports and outdoor equipment, and more. The value of your Asia Miles when used for these items will depend on what you're redeeming.
Most of the items I priced came out to being around 0.4 to 0.5 cents per Asia Mile. Most of the stuff offered will usually not be worth using your Asia Miles for as you will get a ridiculously low value.
Other redemption options
Asia miles can also be redeemed for:
- Experience Awards: Redeem Asia miles for experiences which range from sightseeing tours to airport transfers to admission to parks and museums. Asia miles value will vary.
- Entertainment Awards: Entertainment awards primarily focus on concerts and events going on around Hong Kong and surrounding areas. Asia miles value will depend on the event and how much you value the entertainment being provided.
- Donations: Asia Miles can be donated to several programs and charities.
