AAdvantage Aviator Red Card
The Aviator Red Card is an American Airlines AAdvantage Miles earning card offered by Barclays. Running spend through this card will earn you additional AAdvantage Miles on American Airlines purchases as well as provide several perks when flying their airline such as a free checked bag, rebate on miles redeemed, and in-flight savings.
AAdvantage Point Value
AAdvantage Points are worth around 1.4 cents per mile when it comes to easy flight redemptions. They can also be redeemed for seat upgrades, car rentals (0.6 cents), hotel stays (0.64 cents), Admiral Club Membership (0.64 to 0.83 cents), gift cards (0.38 cents), magazines, newspapers, and more. In addition to using AA credit cards and flying their airlines, additional AAdvantage Miles can be earned in many ways such as car rentals, hotel reservations, cruises, dining and shopping.
The AAdvantage Aviator Red card only has one bonus category which is, of course, American Airline purchases. There is no limit to the number of AAdvantage miles you can earn with the Aviator Red Card. Earned miles will expire if there is no mileage earning or redeeming activity at least once every 18 months on your AAdvantage account. Only the CitiBusiness AAdvantage Platinum Select Card and Barclay AAdvantage Aviator Business Card offer multiple bonus categories.
2x American Airlines
The Aviator Red card earns 2x AAdvantage Miles per $1 spent with American Airlines. Eligible American Airline Purchases are items billed by American Airlines as merchant of record booked through American Airlines channels such as aa.com, American Airlines Reservations, American Airlines Vacations reservations, Airpass and American Airlines airport and city ticket counters. American Airlines Vacations packages, purchase of elite status boost or renewal and American Airlines Cargo products and services does not count toward American Airline purchases.
1x Non Category Spend
The Aviator Red earns one AAdvantage Mile per dollar on any spending that is not with American Airlines. If you're looking to earn AAdvantage Miles on everything under the sun, then this would do it for you. If you're looking for a better return, it can be found on most 1.5% cash back cards and with various reward program cards such as the Blue Business Plus Card with American Express.
Perks and Benefits
First Checked Bag Free
Primary card members may have their First Checked Bag Free of charge when traveling on domestic itineraries. This perk is extended to the cardholder and up to 4 companions as well. The First Checked Bag Free perk does not apply to overweight or oversized bags. The card must be tied to your AAdvantage profile. This should earn you a free checked bag regardless of what card you use to purchase the airfare.
Cardholders will also have preferred boarding for themselves and up to 4 companions traveling on the same reservation. This is also another perk found on the majority of airline credit cards including the United MileagePlus Explorer Card and Delta Skymiles Platinum Card.
25% Off In-Flight Purchases
In-flight purchases of food and beverages with this card will receive 25% off credited back to the statement. The statement credit could take up to 6-8 weeks after the Purchase to post to the Account.
All Barclay and Citi AAdvantage Mile earning credit cards earn 25% off in-flight purchases. This is also features on several airline cards including the majority of the Delta Skymiles Credit Cards.
10% AAdvantage Mile Rebate
10% of redeemed miles are also credited back to the account on up to 10,000 miles maximum per calendar year. This benefit is based on 10% of the total AAdvantage® miles the primary card member redeems during the calendar year. The only other AAdvantage card that offers something similar is the Barclay AAdvantage Aviator Business Card which earns a 5% rebate on points earned during the year.
Sign Up Bonus
The standard AAdvantage Aviator Red Mastercard sign up bonus usually sits at or slightly below 60,000 AAdvantage Miles. The value of these miles will range depending on the destination, time of day, and time of year amongst other things. You should be able to get at least $600 in value out of that bonus. You can check out the American Airlines Award Chart on there website to see how far those miles can get you as far as flights.

The Barclay AAdvantage Aviator Red Card annual fee is . The annual fee on the Citi Platinum Select Card, which has similar benefits, has the annual fee waived the first year.
Authorized User Fee
The AAdvantage Aviator Red card does not have an authorized user fee so allowing family and friends to help you build points will never set you behind.
Foreign Transaction Fee
The Aviator Red's foreign transaction fee is 0%, so overseas spending will not take away from your rewards. Only the Citi AAdvantage MileUp Card and Citi AAdvantage Gold Card have a foreign transaction fee. The other AAdvantage credit cards do not have this fee.
