How to calculate Marriott points value
Marriott points value is not set in stone. They can be worth as little as 0.5 cents and as much as 2 cents per point depending on how you use them, when you use them, and many other factors.
You can calculate the value of Marriott Bonvoy points by dividing the cash cost of your redemption by the amount of points required.
Marriott Bonvoy Points Value = Cash Cost of Hotel Ă· Points Required To Book.
If you want to easily calculate the value of your points, jump to our Use Marriott Points or Pay Cash Calculator.
Redeeming Marriott Bonvoy points for the best value
Your Marriott Bonvoy points will have the best value when redeemed for free nights at Marriott brand hotels. You can also squeeze some decent value out of transferring Marriott points to select airline partners.
All other redemptions will give your points low value.
Free night awards
As with most flexible reward currencies, it's impossible to assign an exact value to Marriott Bonvoy Points. The value you get out of your points is based on what you're willing to redeem them for.
With that being said, the easiest value you can obtain with little to no effort is 0.7 cents per point. I recommend setting that as the bar and to strive for that value or higher when redeeming points for free nights.
For example, I set my bar for Marriott Bonvoy at a value of 1 cent per point meaning that I do not redeem them unless I get 1 cent or more in value from my redemption. I have been successful with this over the past few years, so I can say, for myself, Marriott Bonvoy Points are worth 1 cent each.
If you're browsing search results and want to know if a redemption is worth it, you can use our Book Award Or Pay Cash Calculator to determine the cash value of your points based on cost in cash and cost in points.
Point transfers to airlines
Marriott Bonvoy Points can be transferred to over 35 airline partners, mostly at a 3:1 ratio. This means that 3,000 points can be converted to 1,000 airline miles.
When transferring points, Marriott will also throw in a 15,000-point bonus for every 60,000 points you transfer. At the 3:1 ratio, this is equal to an additional 5,000 airline miles.
So all-in-all, a 60,000-Marriott Bonvoy Point transfer would give you 25,000 airline miles with over 35 airlines.
If you're looking to top off your frequent flyer account or you would just prefer to redeem your points towards airfare versus free nights, Marriott is one of the best hotel programs for doing so.
When staying at most Marriott brand hotels, you'll earn 10 base points per $1 spent which, at the 3:1 ratio, is equivalent to 3.3 airline miles per $1 spent. Factor in elite status and Marriott credit card points on top of that and you're looking at a solid amount of points which can convert to a lot of airline miles.
Marriott Air + Car
Marriott Bonvoy Points can be redeemed for airfare and car rentals through the Marriott Air + Car portal for a value of 0.4 cents per point. This means a $300 airline ticket or car rental would cost you 75,000 Marriott Bonvoy Points.
Neither redemption is the best use of points as you'll be losing lots of value. If you want the flexibility to earn points redeemable for flights, hotels, and car rentals, you'll want to consider earning Chase Ultimate Rewards Points which can be transferred to Marriott Bonvoy, transferred to airline partners or be redeemed directly through Chase for 1.25 to 1.5 cents in value towards car rentals.
Cruises
Marriott Bonvoy points can be redeemed to book cruises through the Cruise with Points portal. Redemptions start at 63,000 points for a $250 off certificate and cap out at 1,250,000 points for a $5,000 certificate.
Gift cards
Marriott Bonvoy Points can be redeemed for gift cards. Redemptions start at 5,000 points for a $10 gift card and max out at 30,000 points for a $100 gift card.
Redeeming your points for Marriott gift cards will yield a slightly higher value of 0.4 cents per point, but I'd recommend avoiding that and just using your points for free nights.
Merchandise
Marriott Bonvoy Points can be used for merchandise through the Marriott Shop With Points portal. The value you get out of these redemptions will vary, but it will be typically under 0.2 cents per point which is very, very low value.
Marriott Moments
Marriott Bonvoy Points can be used for moments which are culinary, art & lifestyle, sports, and entertainment. The value you get out these depend on how much you value the event or moment.
It's hard to put a cash value for things such as PGA Golf Tours with pros or cooking with a famous chef.
