IHG points can be redeemed for free nights, merchandise, and gift cards. You can also transfer points to large handful of airline partners.
You will get the best value out of your points when redeeming them for free nights at IHG brand properties.
How much are IHG points worth?
Based on our valuations, IHG points are worth 0.7 cents per point on average when redeemed for free nights at IHG brand hotels. This means that 10,000 IHG points are equal to about $70 in value towards free night awards.
Here's our breakdown of IHG points value based on redemption:
Redemption option | IHG point value (in cents) |
---|---|
Award Nights | 0.7 |
Point Transfers To Partners | 0.2 - 0.4 |
IHG Rewards Catalog | 0.2 - 0.3 |
Gift Cards | 0.19 - 0.2 |
How to calculate IHG points value
If you want to know the dollar value of your IHG points, it's easy to find out. You can calculate IHG points value by dividing the cash cost of your redemption by the amount of points required to book it.
IHG Points Value = Cash Cost of Redemption ÷ Points Required To Book.
If you want to easily calculate the value of your IHG points and find out if a redemption is worth your time (and points), use our IHG Points or Pay Cash Calculator.
Redeeming IHG points for the best value
Your IHG points will have the best value when redeeming for free nights at IHG brand hotels, especially if you're an IHG credit cardholder and can make use of the 4th night free benefit.
All other redemptions will give your points lower value.
Free night awards
IHG Points can be redeemed for free nights at IHG brand hotels all over the world. This will give your points an average value of 0.7 cents each, though it can be higher or lower depending on the redemption.
The IHG Rewards program does not have an award chart, so you will not know how much your points are worth until you start booking your award stay. You'll then be able to compare the cash price to the award price and calculate the value of the redemption.
IHG 4th night free benefit
IHG's 4th night free benefit allows you to book a 4-night consecutive award stay at an IHG hotel for the cost of 3 nights. Not only will this benefit automatically bump up the value of your IHG points, it will also help save you tons of points as you'll be able to enjoy longer vacations at a less cost.
The only way to partake in this marvelous perk is by being an IHG credit cardholder meaning that you must hold one of the following cards:
- IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card
- IHG One Rewards Traveler Credit Card
- IHG One Rewards Premier Business Credit Card
As a cardholder, the free night will display automatically when booking a stays that has 4 or more consecutive night stays. This means you don't even have to use the card to book your stay (though I recommend doing so if you plan on maximizing your points).
Point transfers to airlines
IHG Points can be transferred to over 30 airlines. The transfer ratios vary depending on the program, but most transfers are 10,000 IHG Points for 2,000 airline miles which comes out to 1 airline mile for every 5 IHG Points.
Transferring IHG points to partners isn't the best use of points, but it can be useful if you're a few miles short of a redemption and need to top off one of your frequent flyer accounts.
IHG Rewards catalog
IHG Points can be redeemed on the IHG Rewards Catalog for merchandise. This will give your IHG Points a value of around 0.2 to 0.3 cents per point, but there's are instances in which you can get lower or higher depending on the item.
There's lots of things to choose from ranging from Electronics and Garden to Fashion and Kids. I only recommend going this route if you're trying to clear out your IHG Points since the value is more than half the average value when used for free nights.
Gift cards
IHG Points can be redeemed in the IHG Rewards Catalog for gift cards. There's over 70 different gift cards that you can redeem your points for with redemptions start at 13,000 points for a $25 gift card.

Finding the best cards for IHG One Rewards
The best travel rewards card for IHG will be one of their own co-branded credit cards. You can also earn points with Chase Ultimate Rewards and transfer those points to your IHG account, but I would only recommend doing so if you need to top off your account since Ultimate Rewards points are worth significantly more than IHG points.
IHG credit cards
IHG offers three credit cards that you can use to earn IHG points on everyday spending. They also offer exclusive benefits including access to IHG's 4th night free benefit, discounts when buying IHG points, and complimentary elite status.
Here are the three credit cards that IHG offers:
Ultimate Rewards credit cards
Chase Ultimate Rewards points can be converted into IHG points at a 1:1 ratio. This means every 1,000 Chase points you transfer to your IHG One Rewards account will give you 1,000 IHG points.
Chase points can easily be redeemed for 1.25 to 1.5 cents apiece for travel booked through Chase. You can also transfer Chase points to handful of airline and hotel partners and get as much as 2 cents or more in value without much effort.
So while transferring Chase points to your IHG points can be great for topping off your account when you're a few points shy of a redemption, it's not something you'd want to do too often as you'll be devaluing your points (unless you don't care and want to just use them for IHG).
