AAdvantage Transfer Calculator

The AAdvantage Transfer Calculator will calculate the conversion of rewards from other programs to AAdvantage Miles. You can enter any amount of AAdvantage Miles in the table below. It will output the total amount of points needed in the partnering program(s) to equal the amount of AAdvantage Miles you specified.

Transfer From Best Western

The ability to transfer Best Western Points to American Airlines Advantage Miles is no longer an option on the Best Western website. You can still transfer Best Western Points to other airlines in the Star Alliance to book travel on American Airlines.

Transfer From Choice Hotels

Choice Privileges Points transfer to American Airlines Advantage Miles at a 5 to 1 ratio. Choice Privileges Members earn Choice Points at a base rate of 10 points per $1 spent which means earning 2 AAdvantage Miles staying at their hotels. Using the Barclays Choice Privileges Card would earn you an additional AAdvantage Mile since it earns 5 Choice Points per $1 spent at Choice Hotels. Earning Choice Elite Status will earn you up to a 50% point bonus for a total of 15 points which is 3 AAdvantage Miles. The most AAdvantage Miles earned will be a total of 4 AAdvantage Miles per $1 spent which would be a Choice Diamond Member using the Barclays Choice Privileges Card to pay for their hotel stay.

Transfer From Hilton Honors

Hilton Honors members can transfer points to American Airlines at a rate of 10,000 Hilton Honors Points for 1,500 AAdvantage Miles which simplifies to 10 points for 1.5 miles. Hilton Honors members earn at a base rate of 10 points per $1 spent. The highest rate of AAdvantage Miles you can earn is about 5.1 miles per $1 spent as a Hilton Honors Diamond using the Hilton Aspire Card. Luckily, the Hilton Aspire grants Hilton Diamond Status and provides a ton of other perks including $500 in annual credits.

Transfer From World of Hyatt

World of Hyatt members can transfer points to American Airlines at a rate of 5 Hyatt Points for 2 AAdvantage Miles. Members earn at a base rate of 5 Hyatt Points making it easy to earn 2 miles per $1 spent staying at their hotels. Hyatt members can earn up to 10.5 Hyatt Points per $1 spent as a Hyatt Globalist using the Chase Hyatt Card to pay for their stay. This is a total of about 4.2 AAdvantage Miles per $1 spent.

Hyatt also gives you 5,000 bonus miles when you transfer 50,000 points into airline miles giving you the chance to earn some additional miles!

Transfer From IHG Rewards Club

IHG Rewards Club members can transfer points to American Airlines at a rate of 10,000 IHG Points for 2,000 AA Miles which simplifies to 5 points for 1 mile. Since IHG Members earn a base rate of 10 IHG Points per $1 spent, you're looking at 2 AAdvantage Miles per $1 when staying at IHG brand hotels. As an IHG Spire Member using the IHG Premier Card, you can earn a total of 30 IHG Points per $1 spent which equals to 6 AAdvantage Miles per $1.

Transfer From Marriott Bonvoy

Marriott Bonvoy members can transfer points to American Airlines at a rate of 3 Marriott Bonvoy Points for 1 AAdvantage Mile. All members earn at a base rate of 6 points per $1 meaning you can earn an easy 2 AAdvantage Miles per $1 spent at Marriott's 30 different hotel brands. Marriott Titanium Elites and Marriott Ambassador Elites using any of the available Marriott Credit Cards will earn a total of 23.5 Marriott Bonvoy Points per $1 which is a whopping 7.8 AAdvantage Miles per $1 spent. This makes Marriott the best hotel program for earning AAdvantage Miles for anyone that can meet Marriott's 75 night requirement for Titanium Elite status.

What makes Marriott even better is that they also throw in 15,000 Marriott Bonvoy Points when you transfer 60,000 points giving you an additional 5,000 AAdvantage Miles.

Transfer From Radisson Rewards

Radisson Rewards members can transfer points to American Airlines at a rate of 10 Radisson Rewards Points for 1 AAdvantage Mile. Since Radisson Members earn 20 base points per $1 spent, you're looking at earning 2 AAdvantage Miles per $1 spent at Radisson brand hotels. Radisson Platinum Members using the Radisson Rewards Premier Visa Signature Card to pay for their stay will earn 45 points per $1 which is equal to 4.5 AAdvantage Miles.

Transfer From Wyndham Rewards

Wyndham Rewards members can transfer points to American Airlines at a rate of 5 Wyndham Rewards Points for 1 AAdvantage Mile. All Wyndham members earn points at a base rate 10 points per $1 spent for a total of 2 AAdvantage Miles. Wyndham does not provide point boosts based on status, but instead offers 3,000 or 6,000 points annually once you qualify for Wyndham Platinum or Wyndham Diamond which is not as useful as the other hotel programs. You can use the Wyndham Platinum Card (with annual fee) to earn an additional AAdvantage Mile, for a max of 3 miles making Wyndham the worst choice for transferring points to American Airlines.

Earning With Partner Credit Cards

All of the credit cards listed in the table below allow you to earn rewards and transfer them directly to your American Airlines AAdvantage Account. This gives you alternative ways to earn rewards through spend and sign up bonuses. The earning rates listed are based on the transfer ratio when converting rewards to AAdvantage Miles. You can use the Search By Transfer Partners tool to get a list of credit cards that earn rewards with a specific program.

Filter out cards by region. Credit cards for all regions may not be listed or available.

Earning Miles On Everyday Spend

There are no credit cards that really offers a real advantage over earning AAdvantage Miles on everyday spend. Since none of the major programs (AMEX, Chase, Citi, and Capital One) transfers to AAdvantage Miles, you're left with a bunch of hotel cards that offers at most 2 AAdvantage Miles for spending with their own brand. This means that anyone looking to earn AAdvantage Miles through credit card spend should stick with using American Airlines credit cards to earn miles. Of course if you're loyal to any given hotel brand, I'd still recommend picking up a co-branded hotel credit card so that you can earn the equivalent of 2 AAdvantage Miles with credit cards from hotels such as Marriott and Best Western.

Earning Miles With Sign Up Bonuses

If you're looking for a small chunk of AAdvantage Miles, there's several Marriott credit cards that can earn you as many 38,000 AAdvantage Miles when you hit the cards sign up bonus and transfer the points to your AAdvantage account.

Marriott Credit Cards

Marriott Credit Cards offers standard sign up bonuses between 50,000 and 75,000 Marriott Bonvoy Points and their promotional bonuses have been as high 100,000 points. Since Marriott Bonvoy Points transfers to AAdvantage Miles at a 3:1 ratio, you're looking at 16,666 to 25,000 AAdvantage Miles when transferred with the chance to earn 33.333k if you nab one of the 100k sign up bonuses. To make matters better, Marriott throws in an additional 15,000 Bonvoy Points for every 60,000 you transfer which gives you an additional 5,000 AAdvantage Miles.

I recommned taking a look at the Chase Marriott Bonvoy Boundless or the AMEX Marriott Bonvoy Business Card as they both offer solid sign up bonuses with relatively low annual fees. Both cards are also great for those who generally enjoy staying at Marriott Hotels and want to maximize their earnings on Marriott spend.

Most of AA's transfer partners are good for topping off your account, but none of them will really earn you a great return on AAdvantage Miles on day to day spend. Since American Airlines is not partnered with any of the major rewards programs that allow you transfer points, you're best bet for earning AAdvantage Miles will come from using AAdvantage credit cards.
