Alaska Airlines Credit Card
Review the perks and benefits of the Alaska Airlines Credit Card and calculate how many Alaska Miles you can earn based on your monthly/yearly spend.
The Bank of America Alaska Airlines card is a must have for anyone who flies their airline often. It earns a great deal of bonus Alaska Mileage Plan Miles, an annual companion ticket for a friend or family member to fly with you, and cardholders and their guests get their first checked bag free.
The Alaska Airlines Card features one bonus category which is Alaska Airline purchases. There is no limit to the amount of MileagePlan Miles you can earn with this card. Below are the details of the Alaska Airlines Card's earning structure.
3x Alaska Airlines
Using the Alaska Airlines Card for Alaska Airlines purchases will earn 3 MileagePlan Miles per $1 spent. Bank of America considers Alaska Airlines purchases to be Alaska Airline tickets, in-flight food and beverage purchases, and cargo purchases billed by Alaska Airlines and directly through Alaska Airlines. Virgin America purchases also fall under this category. This includes Virgin America tickets and in-flight purchases. Alaska Airlines Vacation packages used for business are also eligible and must be booked directly with Alaska Airlines as well.
Earning triple miles with Alaska Airline is a high return of about 4.5% since each MileagePlan mile is worth about 1.5 cents each. This is one of the best returns you can earn when it comes to accumulating MileagePlan Miles. Other cards that earn a good return consist of the JetBlue Card which earns triple JetBlue miles on JetBlue Purchases and the Hawaiian Mastercard which earns triple Hawaiian Air miles on purchases of their airfare.
Any spending on the Alaska Airlines Card outside of Alaska Airline purchases will earn you 1 MileagePlan Mile per $1 spent. Since Alaska's miles are valuable, this is still a great return of 1.5% so if your main goal is to build miles with them, it's not a bad idea to put non-category spend on this card.
Perks and Benefits
First Checked Bag Free
Holders of the Bank of America Alaska Airlines Card will receive their First Checked Bag Free. This will apply for the cardholder and up to 6 passengers traveling on the same reservation. Qualifying reservations include flights marketed by Alaska Airlines and operated by Alaska Airlines, Virgin America, Horizon Air, SkyWest or PenAir. Similar to Delta's co-branded airline cards, this card does not need to be used in order to receive this perk.
Alaska Companion Fare
On the account anniversary date, Bank of America Alaska Airlines Card holders will receive a Companion Fare Code that will be credited to their Alaska Airline MileagePlan account. The code is good for a round-trip coach Companion Fare on Alaska Airlines or Virgin America from $121 ($99 taxes and fees, from $22 depending on itinerary) when traveling with another passenger on a paid published coach airfare on the same itinerary, booked at the same time. This code must be redeemed within 12 months of date of issue.

Credit Card Fees
|Authorized User Fee|

The annual fee for the Alaska Airlines Card is $75. This is a little lower than the norm for co-branded airline cards. They usually start off at $95 or higher per year, but few cards do waive the annual fee the first year such as the Delta Gold Card.
Authorized User Fee
The Alaska Airlines Card has an authorized user fee of 0%. If you're looking to build your MileagePlan Miles, I'd recommend adding friends and/or family as authorized users of your Alaska Airlines Card.
Foreign Transaction Fee
The foreign transaction fee for the Alaska Airlines Card is 0%. This means you can use Alaska Card out of country to earn MileagePlan Miles and not be penalized with additional fees.
