The Delta SkyMiles Blue AMEX is a great card for those who want access to Delta's basic (but useful) perks such as Pay with Miles and saving on in-flight purchases. If you have any of Delta's other AMEX cards, this is the best card to downgrade to if you do not need the additional benefits and don't want to keep paying an annual fee.
The Delta Skymiles Blue Card features two bonus categories which are Delta purchases and restaurants. There is no limit to how many Skymiles you can earn spending across either bonus category and no limit to the amount of Skymiles you can earn with the card in general.
2x Delta Purchases
When you use the Delta Skymiles Blue AMEX Card for Delta purchases you will earn 2 Skymiles per $1 spent. Spending with delta counts as purchases where Delta is the merchant of record, such as purchases via Delta.com, phone reservations, or ticket counters, upgrades, miles, seat selection, Delta Sky Club® membership or passes, pre-purchased meals, in-flight purchases of food, alcoholic beverages and audio headsets on Delta-operated flights. Do note that in-flight wireless internet access is not counted as a Delta purchases.

All purchases outside of Delta Airlines and restaurants will earn you 1 Skymile per $1 spent. This is a low return and is the non-category rate across all Delta AMEX Cards. The only way to get a better return is to use Membership Rewards credit cards and then transfer those points to your Delta SkyMiles account. The best two cards will be the AMEX Blue Business Plus which earns 2 points per $1 spent on the first $50,000 in purchases made during the year and the AMEX Everyday Preferred which can earn up to 1.5 points per $1 spent when you hit the swipe requirements for the 50% bonus points.
