When it comes to earning Delta Skymiles, American Express Membership Rewards takes first place for earning points on everyday spend. Those looking to maximizing their earnings will want to consider several of their cards.

AMEX Platinum

The AMEX Platinum card earns 5 Membership Rewards Points on airfare purchased directly with airlines. It also earns 5 points per $1 on airfare and hotels purchased through the American Express Travel portal. When transferred, this is equal to 5 Delta Skymiles per $1 spent on these purchases. This is significantly better than Delta's own line up of credit cards that earns 2 Skymiles per $1 spent on airfare. AMEX Platinum cardholders also receive complimentary Delta SkyClub access when a same-day flight ticket is presented. Authorized users of the Platinum Card also receive SkyClub access as well.

AMEX Everyday Preferred

The AMEX Everyday Preferred Card earns 3 Membership Rewards Points per $1 spent on supermarket and 2 points per $1 spent on gas. Those who make 30 transactions on the card within a statement will receive a 50% boost earning a total of 4.5 points per $1 for supermarket and 3 points per $1 on gas which is equal to 4.5x and 3x Skymiles when transferred. That makes the Everyday Card the best card for those looking to earn Skymiles on supermarket and gas station purchases. Those looking to avoid the annual fee can pick up the Everyday Card which can earn up to 2.2 points on grocery after the 20% boost for making 20 transactions in a statement.

The AMEX Gold card earns 4 Membership Rewards Points per $1 on supermarket and restaurant purchases making this an extremely easy way to earn Skymiles if you spend in these categories. It also earns 3 Membership Rewards Points per $1 spent on airfare for those of you who don't find interest in the luxury Platinum Card. The AMEX Gold Card is one of the best well-rounded cards that AMEX has next to the Everyday Preferred, so I recommend grabbing this up to maximize your earnings!

AMEX Blue Business Plus

The AMEX Blue Business Plus Card earns 2 Membership Rewards Points per $1 spent on the first $50,000 in purchases made during the calendar year making it the best card for miscellaneous purchases in which other cards would earn minimal points. Using this card for purchases will ensure that you always earn the equivalent of 2 Skymiles per $1 spent. Those with any kind of business, small or large, can pick up this business card from American Express.

AMEX Trifecta

You've probably realized that Membership Rewards Points is the best option for earning Delta Skymiles. If all of the AMEX credit cards above interest you, I recommend looking at the AMEX Trifecta. This is a combination of the American Express Platinum, Gold, and Blue Business Plus Card. When combined, these cards offer the max earnings on airfare, supermarket, restaurant, and miscellaneous spend while offering $120 in dining credits, a combined $300 in airline incidental credits, up to $100 towards a Global Entry/TSA PreCheck application, $200 in Uber credits (also good for UberEats), Delta SkyClub access, and much, much more.
