The Korean Air SKYPASS Select Visa Signature Card features 4 bonus categories in which it earns double SKYPASS Miles for. Those categories are: airline, hotel, car rental, and Korean Air ticket purchases. Since SKYPASS Miles are worth 1.5 cents each, these four categories will offer a return of about 3%. There is no limit to the amount of SKYPASS Miles you can earn spending on this card. Non of these categories have a limit cap. Below are the details on each bonus category for the Korean Air SKYPASS Select Visa Signature Card.
2x Korean Air Tickets
Purchasing Korean Air airfare tickets with the SKYPASS Select Visa Signature Card will net 2 SKYPASS Miles per $1 spent. This card offers the highest amount of SKYPASS Miles you can earn when it comes to purchasing airfare and earning miles with Korean Air alongside the Korean Air SKYPASS Visa Signature Card. If you're looking for a better return, the American Express Platinum Card earns 5x on airfare purchases for a return of 5% at minimum. The Chase Sapphire Reserve Card can also earn you 3x on travel purchases for a return of at least 4.5%. Korean Air awards can also be booked though other SkyTeam partners such as Delta Airlines, so some of there cards might work for you as well.
The SKYPASS Select Visa Signature Card also earns 2 SKYPASS Miles per $1 spent on other airline purchases. This bonus is classified as any merchant that falls under the 'airline' merchant code which will usually apply to airfare purchases and purchases made directly with the airline such as seat upgrades, in-flight purchases, and more. Earning double SKYPASS Miles on all airline purchases is a pretty good bonus that not many co-branded airline cards offer. If your main airline is Korean Air, running airline spend through this card will benefit you greatly.
Spending done at hotels with the SKYPASS Select Visa Signature Card will earn 2 SKYPASS Miles per $1 spent. This will apply to any merchant that classifies their business as a hotel. This is another great category for earning SKYPASS Miles if you're doing a great deal of traveling. If you're loyal to a specific hotel brand such as Marriott Bonvoy or Hilton Honors then you might want to look at their brand of cards which offer automatic status, bonus reward points, late checkout, and free nights.
2x Rental Car
Rental Car purchases with the SKYPASS Select Visa Signature Card will earn 2 SKYPASS Miles per $1 spent. This will apply to merchants that classify their purchases under the rental car category. There's not really any co-branded rental car reward cards, so picking up double SKYPASS Miles on these purchases is well worth it. A few cards offer a great return on rentals such as the Hilton Honors Aspire Card (7x Hilton Honors Points) and Chase Sapphire Reserve Card (3x Ultimate Rewards Points).
Any purchases on the SKYPASS Select Visa Signature Card outside of the categories listed above will earn 1 SKYPASS Mile per $1 spent. Since SKYPASS Miles have great value, if you're main goal is building miles with Korean Air then non-category purchases on this card can easily be justified.
