Review the benefits of the LATAM Visa Card, calculate how many Multiplus Points you can earn based on your spend, and compare against top rewards cards.

The LATAM Visa Card is a watered down version of the Visa Signature Version. This LATAM card offers the bare minimums when it comes to granting perks for LATAM airlines, but does allow a few small perks to earn a decent return. If you aren't able to get approved for the LATAM Visa Signature and you can't get any good value out of the benefits of the LATAM Visa, I would consider earning bank reward points to put towards airfare travel. Good programs include AMEX Membership Rewards or Chase Ultimate Rewards.

Multiplus Points

On average, Multiplus Points are easily redeemable for 1 cent each. As with most airline currency, it can be worth a lot more depending on the redemption. The Multiplus currency and LATAM Airlines are part of the Oneworld alliance meaning you can transfer these points to other airlines such as American Airlines, British Airways, Iberia, and Qatar Airways. Multiplus points can be used to book award travel with LATAM, upgrade seats, and more. Multiplus points are earned based on your status with LATAM and the cost of the base fare.

Bonus Categories

The LATAM Visa Card does not feature any bonus categories. It earns points at a flat rate for all purchases. There is no limit to the amount of Multiplus Points you can earn using this credit card.

1x All Purchases

The LATAM Visa Card does not feature any bonus categories. It earns 1 Multiplus Point per $1 spent on all purchases. Depending on how much these points are worth to you it can possibly worth it for anyone looking to build their Multiplus Point balance. But the fact that it earns 1x on LATAM purchases takes away a lot of earning potential. The LATAM Visa Signature Card earns double miles on LATAM airfare and is the better choice if you're looking for additional benefits and a better return per $1 spent. There is no limit to the amount of Multiplus Points you can earn with the LATAM Visa Card.

Perks & Benefits

2,000 Bonus Points

The LATAM Visa Card earns 2,000 bonus points when you renew the card. At the rate of 1 cents each, this is worth about $20 which covers a little less than half of the annual fee. Of course if you cherish these points at a higher rate due to transferring to various Oneworld partners, these bonus Multiplus Points could mean a little bit more.

10% Discount

Every year, LATAM Visa Card members will receive a 10% discount on the first LATAM Airlines airfare purchase of the year. The most you can earn off with this discount is $500 which is any airfare ticket at $5,000 or higher. Depending on the ticket, this could be a big savings that could make the card worth keeping. A $450 LATAM airfare ticket would take care of the annual fee.

Sign Up Bonus (SUB)

The standard sign up bonus for the LATAM Visa card is 15,000 bonus points. This is worth $150 at minimum but can be worth more depending on the redemption or when transfered to any of their Oneworld partners.

Fees

Annual Fee

The LATAM Visa Card has an annual fee of $0 the first year, then $45 annually. Depending on how you make use of the 10% discount, this card could be worth keeping after the first year.

Authorized User Fee

There is no authorized user fee for the LATAM Visa Card. You will not earn many miles adding friends and family to the card, but if you're looking to slowly build your Multiplus Point balance this is a way to do it.

Foreign Transaction Fee

The LATAM Visa Card has a foreign transaction fee of 3% meaning you will lose the value of your Multiplus Points at a rate faster than you can earn them. I would not recommend using this card for international purchases. There are better cards to equip yourself with for international travel that has no annual fee, no authorized user fee, and no foreign transaction fee such as the Barclay Uber Card or any of the Capital One Credit Cards such as the Quicksilver or SavorOne Card.
