While you will be able to earn more points using transfer partner credit cards, the Southwest Business Premier Card is a great travel card for anyone looking to earn a solid amount of Rapid Rewards Points for general travel expenses. Running spend through this card grants Tier Qualifying Points which can push you close to status in the Southwest Rapid Rewards Program and the very popular Southwest Companion Pass.

Bonus Categories

The Chase Southwest Business Premier Card features three bonus categories that earn extra Rapid Rewards Points. Those categories are Southwest purchases, hotels, and car rentals. There is no limit to the amount of points you can earn with this card. Points earned with the Southwest Airlines Business Credit Card will usually be added to the Rapid Rewards account at the end of the billing cycle. The points transferred to the Rapid Rewards account will not expire as long as the card is open or the cardholder has flight-earning or partner-earning activity at least once every 24 months. If the card account is closed, the points in the Rapid Rewards account will expire if there isn't flight-earning or Southwest Airlines partner-earning activity at least once every 24 months. Below is a list of details for each bonus category on the Southwest Airlines Business Premier Card.

2x Southwest Purchase

The Southwest Business Premier Card earns 2 Rapid Rewards Points per $1 spent on Southwest Purchases. This is a solid earning for anyone using their card to build Tier Points. If you're looking for more points through, the best bet is going to be the Ink Business Preferred card since it earns 3 Ultimate Rewards Points per $1 which can then be transferred to Southwest at a 1:1 ratio. You can also get a better return on several cards including both the Platinum Card (5%+ return) and Chase Sapphire Reserve Card (4.5%+ return). If you're not in the market for a premium rewards card, several non-premium cards offer a great return as well such as the U.S. Bank FlexPerks Gold Card (3% return) and AMEX Gold Card (3%+ return).

2x Hotel

Hotel purchases made on the Southwest Business Premier Card earns 2 Rapid Rewards Points per $1 spent. This category will only apply to hotels that are partners of Southwest. Those hotels are:

Earning double miles on these hotels is not bad. The Ink Business Preferred is capable of earning a higher amount, but for anyone loyal to the hotel brands listed above, having a co-branded hotel card may bring better earnings and rewards. For example, the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Card earns 6x on Marriott Hotels which will give a better return of 4.2% since Marriott Bonvoy Points are worth about 0.7 cents each. On top of the better return, cardholders will also receive a free night annually, 15 elite night credits toward status, Marriott Silver Elite Status, and more. It's the same with the Radisson, Choice, and Hyatt hotels. It's worth taking the time to see if a hotel's co-branded credit card is worth your time.

2x Car Rental

The Southwest Business Premier Card earns 2 Rapid Rewards Points per $1 spent on car rentals. This car rental category will only apply to rental car companies that are partners of Southwest Airlines. Those rental car companies are:

When it comes to car rentals, the Southwest credit cards offers a solid return. But the real shine goes to the Chase Ultimate Rewards Cards since they offer 2 to 3 points per $1 spent on rental cards and provide Primary Car Rental Insurance. If you rent cars often, this can save you hundreds if you normally pay that expensive $20-$40 per day insurance that the car rental companies offer.

1x Non-Category

Any spending on the Southwest Business Premier Card outside of the categories listed above will earn 1 Rapid Rewards Point per $1 spent. This is a decent return and could be a good way to build points for anyone concentrating strictly on Rapid Rewards Points. Anyone with an Ultimate Rewards Point earning card can earn 1.5 points per $1 spent using the Chase Freedom Unlimited or Chase Ink Business Unlimited. You can also earn a better return with a flat rate earning card like the Citi Double Cash Card or Alliant CashBack Visa Card.

1x Balance Transfers

The Southwest Business Premier Card allows Rapid Rewards points to be earned on balance transfers. Earn 1 Rapid Rewards Point for each $1 of the first $15,000 of balance transfers made during the first 90 days from your original account open date.

Perks and Benefits

6,000 Bonus Points

Southwest Business Premier Cardholders will receive an anniversary gift of 6,000 Bonus Rapid Rewards Points each card member anniversary. Account anniversary year means the year beginning with your account open date through the anniversary of your account open date, and each 12 months after that.

Earn Tier Qualifying Points

Southwest Business Premier Card members will earn 1,500 Tier Qualifying Points (TQPs) for every $10,000 in eligible net purchases on the card. Members will be allowed to earn up to 15,000 tier qualifying points per year. Tier Qualifying Points can be used to count toward qualification for Rapid Rewards A-List and A-List Preferred status along with obtaining the Southwest Companion Pass.

Standard Chase Benefits

The Southwest Business Premier card comes with the standard Chase credit card perks such as Lost Luggage Reimbursement, Extended Warranty Protection, Baggage Delay Insurance, and Purchase Protection.

Sign Up Bonus

The standard sign up bonus for the Southwest Business Premier Card is 60,000 Rapid Rewards Points after spending $3,000 on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening. This is worth $800+ towards Southwest award travel.

Credit Card Fees

Annual Fee
Authorized User Fee
Foreign Transaction Fee

Annual Fee

The annual fee for the Southwest Business Premier Card is $99. This is the standard for entry level travel cards. The sign up bonus should easily be able to take care of the annual fee cost the first year. Once the second year starts, you will start to receive the bonus 6,000 Rapid Rewards Points which is worth about $84. Add in the free checked bags, the ability to earn Tier Qualification Points, and the ability to earn double miles on the bonus categories and the card should be easily justifiable for anyone flying Southwest Airlines.

Authorized User Fee

The Southwest Business Premier Card does not have an authorized user fee. If you're looking to build Southwest Rapid Rewards Points, I would recommend adding friends and family so that you can earn reward travel faster.

Foreign Transaction Fee

The foreign transaction fee for the Southwest Business Premier Card is 0%. This means you can earn Rapid Rewards Points worldwide and not be penalized a fee for using your card out of country.
