United TravelBank Card
Review the benefits of the United TravelBank Card, calculate how much TravelBank Cash you can earn based on your spend, and compare results to top cards.
The United Airlines TravelBank Card is a unique cash back card that earns rewards specific to United Airlines. It's similar to using the other United Airlines credit cards but without all the extra benefits and earning categories. When it comes to the United cards, this is the worst card in the bunch if you're looking to apply rewards towards United Airlines travel.
United TravelBank Cash Value
TravelBank Cash earned with the United TravelBank Card works similar to your standard cash back card. You will earn a certain amount of TravelBank Cash based on the spend you run through the card. That earned TravelBank Cash can then be applied towards United Purchases.
The big difference between earning TravelBank Cash and United Miles is that TravelBank Cash will always be worth face value while United Miles can have a range of values depending on how you redeem them. $0.01 in TravelBank Cash has a value of $0.01 towards United purchases, but 1 United Miles can be worth more or less than $0.01 (generally worth more).
The primary benefit that the TravelBank Card has over other United Card is that it earns 1.5% back on non-United purchases whereas most of the United Miles-earning cards earn 1 United Mile. More times than not, 1.5% back in TravelCash will be worth more than 1 United Mile.
The United TravelBank Credit Card features one bonus category which is United Airlines purchases. There is no limit to the amount of TravelBank Cash you can earn with this card.
2% United Airlines
Using the United TravelBank Credit Card for United Airlines purchases will earn 2% TravelBank Cash per $1 spent. This is equal to earning 2% cash back that is applicable only to United Airlines. United Purchases count as airline tickets (purchased directly with United), seat upgrades, in-flight food, beverages, Wi-Fi, baggage service charges and other United fees and does not include United Cruises®, MileagePlus X, DIRECTV, and Merchandise Awards.
Most redemptions with United Miles will give you more than 2% in value, so you'll want to stick with a United Miles-earning card if you want better overall value as well as benefits when flying United. If you're looking to avoid annual fees and/or don't care about the extra value and benefits, the the United TravelBank Card is not a bad option.
Any non-United Airlines purchases with the United TravelBank Credit Card will earn 1.5% TravelBank Cash per $1 spent which is equal to earning 1.5% cash back that is applicable only to United Airlines. Earning a 1.5% return on non-category purchases puts this ahead of most of United's other cards as they only earn 1 United Mile which will typically have less than $0.015 (1.5%) in value. If you want to max out everything United and don't usually redeem United Miles for more than 1.5 cents per mile, the TravelBank Card is a good option for non-category spend dedicated to United.
