The JetBlue Card is a credit card offered by Barclays that is a great choice for anyone that flies JetBlue and wants to rack up airline miles without paying the annual fee that comes with the JetBlue Plus Card. It earns triple miles on JetBlue purchases along with bonus miles on both restaurants and grocery stores. The JetBlue Card also offers an outstanding 50% off in flight purchases of cocktails and food purchases.

Bonus Categories

The Barclays JetBlue Card features three bonus categories that earn extra TrueBlue Points. These categories are JetBlue purchases, restaurants, and grocery store purchases. There is no limit to the amount of TrueBlue Points you can earn. Below are the details on the JetBlue Card bonus categories.

3x JetBlue Purchases

The JetBlue Card earns 3 TrueBlue Points per $1 spent on JetBlue Purchases. This will include all purchases that are made directly with JetBlue Airways which includes airfare. With JetBlue's points being worth 1.3 cents each, you are looking at a 3.9% return which is great for a card with no annual fee. Other cards that offer triple miles on purchases with their respective airlines consist of the Alaska Airlines Card, Allegiant Card, and Hawaiian Mastercard. You will even get your first checked bag fee waived when holding any Alaska or Hawaiian credit card.

2x Restaurant

Dining out with the JetBlue Card will earn 2 TrueBlue Points per $1 spent. This will apply to both fast food, fine dining establishments, and anything else coded as restaurant. Earning double miles on restaurant purchases is about the norm with most co-branded airline cards. The returns offered on these cards can be easily beat by cards such as the Barclay Uber Card (4% cash back) and the Capital One SavorOne Card (3% cash back). While it's nice to earn double miles, I'd recommend opting for the higher return since the cash back would accumulate faster which will earn you a free flight (or any other redemption) faster.

2x Grocery

Grocery Shopping will earn 2 TrueBlue Points per $1 spent when you use the JetBlue Card. This bonus category applies to stores coded as grocery which includes place like Vons, Giant Eagle, Meijer, and Publix. Earning double miles on grocery is not a bad deal. A larger return can be earned on the first $6,000 in grocery ran across the Blue Cash Everyday and Blue Cash Preferred cards. Both of these AMEX cards also offer bonus cash back on both gas station and department store purchases, so it's a good alternative to make a higher return if you wish to go the cash back route.

Non-Category

Any spending outside of the categories listed above will earn 1 TrueBlue Points per $1 spent. This is a return of 1.3% if you peg TrueBlue Points at 1.3 cents each. You can aim for an ever-so-slightly higher return using a 1.5% card, but it's probably not worth the hassle since you can sometimes get a higher return that 1.3 cents for JetBlue redemptions. The Citi Double Cash Card earns a 2% return on all purchases and could be a good choice if you're really looking for a good return on non-category purchases.

Perks and Benefits

50% Off In-Flight Purchases

JetBlue Card holders will receive 50% off in-flight purchases of cocktails and food. This is a very useful perk to anyone that occasionally grabs a drink on a JetBlue flight. The 50% saved on these purchases will be credited back to the account in the form of a statement credit. Most co-branded credit cards offer 20-25% off in-flight purchases. This includes Delta Airline and American Airline credit cards.

Sign Up Bonus

The standard Barclays JetBlue credit card sign up bonus is 10,000 bonus points after making $1,000 in purchases with your credit card account within 90 days of account opening. This is worth about $130 in air travel, but can be worth more depending on the redemption. The JetBlue Plus Card typically offers a higher sign up bonus of around 40,000 points after the same $1,000 in purchases which is equal to around $520 when used for award travel. Subtract the $99 annual fee and you have net gain of $421 which still really good.

Credit Card Fees

Fees
Annual Fee
Authorized User Fee
Foreign Transaction Fee

Annual Fee

The JetBlue Card does not have an annual fee. You will always come out with a positive return when this card is used to earn TrueBlue Points.

Authorized User Fee

There is no authorized user fee for adding additional users to the JetBlue Card. This is a great idea if you have friends or family that spend within the bonus categories attached to this card. Adding users to the JetBlue Card will help accumulate TrueBlue Points at a faster rate.

Foreign Transaction Fee

There is no foreign transaction fee for using the JetBlue Card outside of the United States. This means you will always earn the best return on your miles no matter where you use the card.
