The JetBlue Plus card is the best choice for anyone who flies JetBlue several times a year. It offers a great return on points for JetBlue purchases while offering several perks that can help save money on travel such as a free checked bag, savings on in-flight purchases, and an annual statement credit.

Bonus Categories

The JetBlue Plus card features three bonus categories which are JetBlue purchases, restaurant, and grocery. There is no limit to the amount of JetBlue Points you can earn spending in these categories and their is no limit on the amount of JetBlue Points you can earn with the card in general.

6x JetBlue Purchases

JetBlue purchases made on the JetBlue Plus Card will earn 6 JetBlue Points per $1 spent. This is the highest amount of JetBlue points you can earn on JetBlue purchases and offers a great return of 7.8% if you value JetBlue Points at 1.3 cents each. In terms of value, the American Express Platinum Card earns 5x on airfare purchases as well. So depending on how much value AMEX points are to you, that could possibility produce a higher return.

2x Restaurant

The JetBlue Plus card earns 2 JetBlue Points per $1 spent when used at restaurants. This is an extremely low return on points. If you're looking for additional JetBlue Points, you can earn 3x Ultimate Rewards Points on dining purchases with the Chase Sapphire Reserve or 4x Membership Rewards Points on dining with the AMEX Gold Card.

2x Grocery

The JetBlue Plus card earns 2 JetBlue Points per $1 spent at grocery stores. As with the restaurant category, this is relatively low. You can earn more points on other cards that transfer directly to the JetBlue TrueBlue program. Earn 4x on grocery with the AMEX Gold or earn up to 4.5x points on grocery with the AMEX Everyday Preferred. If you're looking for cash back, the Blue Cash Everyday earns 3% cash back while the Blue Cash Preferred earns 6% cash back at grocery stores.

Perks and Benefits

The JetBlue Plus Card is packed with several benefits such as free checked bags, statement credits and in-flight savings. You can even spend your way to JetBlue Mosaic Status.

First Bag Checked Free

JetBlue Plus cardholders will get their first bag checked free for themselves and up to three companions traveling on the same reservation. This can be a big savings for families and save everyone a great deal of money. Do note that you must use the JetBlue Plus Card to pay for your airfare. Since this card earns such a great return on JetBlue purchases, that should not be come as a problem for most.

JetBlue Mosaic Status

JetBlue Plus cardholders that spend $50,000 or more on their card will be given JetBlue Mosaic Status. Mosaic comes with additional checked bags, waived fees, early boarding, and more. I would say running $50k in spend through this card would be challenging for most. Adding authorized users to the card could help, but it would still require heavy spend for each user. Depending on what spend you're running through the card, you would have to ask yourself if Mosaic Status worth that amount of spend. Unless you're spending $50k on JetBlue purchases, I would say your spend is probably better off on other rewards cards.

$100 JetBlue Vacation Statement Credit

JetBlue Plus cardholders will receive an annual $100 statement credit when they use their card to purchase a JetBlue Vacation package. This packages usually have some pretty solid deals (even when using JetBlue Points), so saving an additional $100 could be useful.

50% Off In-Flight Purchases

All JetBlue cardholders receive 50% off in-flight purchases of cocktails and food. This is one of the biggest in-flight savings of any airline. Most airlines only offer around 20% to 25% off in-flight purchases when using co-branded credit cards.

5,000 Bonus Points Annually

JetBlue Plus cardholders will receive 5,000 points annually after their card anniversary. 5,000 JetBlue Points is worth $65 on average. This is a nice bonus that helps shave down the cost of the annual fee.

10% Point Rebate On Redemptions

JetBlue Plus cardholders will receive a 10% of their points back every time they're used for a redemption. So if you redeem 25,000 TrueBlue Points for an award flight, you will get 2,500 of those points back a few weeks after the flight is completed.

Sign Up Bonus

The standard sign up bonus for the JetBlue Plus Card is 40,000 Bonus Points after spending $1,000 on purchases in the first 90 days and payment of annual fee. 40,000 JetBlue Points has an average cash value of about $520 when used to book flights. Remember that points can also be used to book award flights with Hawaiian Airlines and several other carriers.

Credit Card Fees

Fees
Annual Fee
Authorized User Fee
Foreign Transaction Fee

Annual Fee

The annual fee for the Barclay JetBlue Plus Card is $99. This about the average for most entry level airline cards. In my opinion, if you fly JetBlue and plan on using the card to make JetBlue purchases the card is well worth it. It's hard to beat 6x points on JetBlue airfare. On top of that, the card offers 5,000 bonus points annually which helps bring down the impact of the annual fee.

Authorized User Fee

The JetBlue Plus Card does not have an authorized user fee. Adding family and friends can help build up your JetBlue Points. This can also assist with reaching the $50,000 spend for Mosaic Status.

Foreign Transaction Fee

The JetBlue Plus Card does not have a foreign transaction fee. This means you can use the card overseas without being penalized for out of country charges. This is the best card for overseas purchases, but you can at least still earn some points with the restaurant and grocery categories.
