Barclays Arrival Plus Card
The Barclay Arrival Plus card is a popular rewards card in the credit card world. It earns Arrival Miles which are specifically redeemable with Barclay. Arrival Miles have a solid value and is comparable to other bank specific reward points such as Capital One Venture Miles.
Barclay Arrival Miles
Barclay Arrival Miles are generally worth 1 cent each. They can be redeemed for travel and cash back statement credits, gift cards and merchandise. Travel statement credit redemptions start at 10,000 miles for $100 ($0.01 worth) while Cash back statement credit and gift card redemptions start at 5,000 miles for $25 ($0.005 worth). You can also transfer the miles to a handful of airline programs.
The Barclay Arrival Plus earns a flat rate of Arrival Points and does not feature any bonus categories. There is no limit to the amount of points you can earn using this card
2x All Purchases
The Barclays Arrival Plus Card earns an unlimited 2x Arrival Miles per $1 spent. Since Arrival Miles are easily worth 1 cent each, that gives this card a 2% return. This isn't the best due to the annual fee, but it could be worth it depending on how the miles are used.
Perks and Benefits
5% Arrival Mile Bonus
Barclays Arrival Plus World Elite Mastercard holders will earn 5% of their redeemed miles back as a bonus. The bonuses earned from the redemptions usually post within 1 business day, so the miles can be used fairly fast. For example, if you redeem 20,000 Arrival Miles, you will get 1,000 Arrival Miles as a bonus to use towards the next time you redeem miles.
Sign Up Bonus
The standard Barclays Arrival Plus Card sign up bonus is 60,000 miles after spending $5,000 on purchases in the first 90 days and paying the annual fee. This is worth $600 towards travel which makes this a great bonus. The Arrival Plus Card generally offers a 0% intro APR period on balance transfers as well.
Credit Card Fees
|Authorized User Fee|
|Foreign Transaction Fee|
The Barclaycard Arrival Plus World Elite Mastercard has an annual fee of $0 the first year, then $89. Once the second year begins, the annual fee drags the value of the card down since it takes away from the overall value of the points. You will have to spend about $371 per month ($4,450 per year) to break even at $0 with the annual fee. While you do have to run alot of spend across the card, it's usually good to have at least one rewards card that allows you to wipe out any type of charges.
Authorized User Fee
Luckily, the Barclaycard Arrival Plus Mastercard does not have an authorized user fee. This means you can add multiple friends and family members in order to help build points to offset the annual fee of the card.
Foreign Transaction Fee
The Barclaycard Arrival Plus also does not feature any foreign transaction fees so you can earn rewards overseas and get the same return without any penalty.
