The Venture Card is one of Capital One's most popular credit cards. This is due to the simple nature of earning a flat rate of miles without worrying about rotating categories or maximzing spend on multiple categories across different cards. Venture Miles are also easily redeemable through the Capital One Rewards portal. Miles can be applied to travel for a value of 1 cent per mile or you can redeem them for statement credits, cash back, and gift cards. Venture Miles can also be transferred to 10+ airline partners for a chance to get an even better value. Bonus Categories

The Capital One Venture Card earns a flat rate of Venture Miles per $1 spent. It normally does not feature any bonus categories, but as a promotion it earns bonus Venture Miles spending done through a promotional link. There is no limit to the amount of miles you can earn with the card and there is no cap on the amount of points you can earn spending in any category including the promotion. Below are the details on the earning structure of the Venture Card.

Capital One currently has a promotion going on for purchases. Up until January 31, 2020, Capital One Venture Card holders (and VentureOne holders too) can earn 10 Venture Miles per $1 spent on purchases made through Any purchases not made through that specific link will not earn the 10x promotional bonus and will be considered to be a normal purchase earning you 2 miles per $1 spent instead.

Book 9 nights and get the 10th free!

Since Venture Miles are worth 1 cent each when redeemed for travel, you'll be earning a 10% return per $1 spent on all purchases through the promo. No credit card on the market can touch this return when it comes to being able to choose between multiple hotel brands while still earning a free night. If you frequently book through, this is a pretty good deal, but an even better deal is using the Venture One Card instead. The Capital One VentureOne Card also earns 10 Venture Miles per $1 on purchases, but it has no annual fee. This means you will end up making a solid 10% on all purchases without worrying about the $95 annual fee that kicks in the second year with the Venture Card.

Venture Miles can also be transferred to 14 airline partners meaning you can earn some serious return if you're looking to accumulate some airline miles. With earning 10 points per $1, you're looking at 5 to 6.6 miles per $1 when transfered to those airlines. That's a rate you can't earn with other cards. So if you're not loyal to any specific hotel brand, and you want to rake up some airline miles quick, the promotion is the way to go.

2x All Purchases

Promotion aside, the standard earning rate of the Capital One Venture Card is 2 Venture Miles per $1 spent on all purchases. Venture miles are worth 1 cent each when redeemed for travel giving you a return of 2% for every dollar spent on the card.

When it comes to the 2% return, this isn't anything extraordinary since you can find several cards that earn the same amount or better. The problem with the Venture Card is that once the annual fee kicks in the second year, it takes away from the value of the card. Assuming you use the $100 Global Entry/TSA PreCheck the first year, the second year will start you in the hole with a $95 annual fee. You would have to put $1,583 per month of spend on this card ($19,000 a year) for it to break even with the Capital One Quicksilver Card which earns 1.5% cash back on all purchases. You also have similar cards such as the Alliant CashBack Visa Card which earns 3% cash back it's first year on all purchases and 2.5% cash back the second year and beyond. You can get a better result with the Citi Double Cash Card as well which offers a flat 2% return for all purchases and has no annual fee.

Perks and Benefits

The Capital One Card's main benefit is that it offers a Global Entry / TSA PreCheck credit. Besides that, it features the standard Visa Signature Card benefits. Below are the details on these perks.

Global Entry/TSA PreCheck Credit

The Venture Capital One card comes with up to $100 credit towards a Global Entry or TSA PreCheck application fee. Like many other travel cards that offer this perk, the credit is only usable once every four years. This credit will trigger on the Venture Card regardless of whether or not the applicant passes or fails the interview process.

This is one of the rare non-luxury cards that offer this perk. The Global Entry and TSA PreCheck Credit is usually seen on premium cards such as The Chase Sapphire Reserve, The AMEX Platinum Card, and The Citi Prestige Card all of which come with hefty annual fee of $450 to $550 (but well worth it).

Visa Signature Perks

The Venture Card features the standard Capital One Visa Signature Benefits such as travel upgrades and savings, complimentary concierge, auto rental collision damage waiver, extended warranty, and more. View the Full Visa Signature for details of the perks.

Sign Up Bonus

The standard Venture Capital One sign up bonus is 50,000 bonus miles. 50,000 Capital One miles is worth $500 when redeemed using the Capital One Purchase Eraser, Rewards Center, and for most gift cards. This can be applied to hotels, rental cars, flights, and any other form of travel charged to the card which is why people love the flexibility of Venture Miles.

On top of that, these miles can be transferred to 14 different airline partners. You will get between 25,000 to 33,333 miles depending on the airline. You can calculate the transfer ratio of those 14 partners with the Capital One Miles Transfer Calculator.

Annual Fee

The annual fee for the Capital One Venture Card is $0 the first year, then $95. Once the second year starts and the annual fee kicks in, the return diminishes. I would say the Venture Card would be worth it for the 10x promo, but if you're only using it for that, the Venture One is the better choice since it also earns 10x on purchases but without an annual fee. You can always give the Venture a test run since it has no fee the first year so that you know if it's worth the investment or not.

Authorized User Fee

The Venture Card does not have a fee associated with adding authorized users. This allows you to add family and friends to build up a stash of Venture Miles on everyday charges.

Foreign Transaction Fee

The foreign transaction fee for the Capital One Venture Card is 0% meaning you can earn double Venture Miles even when out of country!
