Penfed Pathfinder Rewards Card
The PenFed Pathfinder Rewards Card is great for anyone that does a great deal of spending in the travel category. From traveling around the world to driving back and forth between work, this rewards card can help you build up the points need for your next adventure. If you have military service (active duty, reserve, honorably discharged, or retired) you'll earn even more points!
PenFed Points Value
PenFed Points are easily worth 1 cent each and can be used towards merchandise and services, airline travel redemption, and gift cards/certificates. Do note that PenFed charges a $15 Air Booking Fee on all online air bookings and a $25 Air Booking Fee on phone air bookings. These high fees can take away from the value of your PenFed Points. Points expire 5 years after being awarded on a first-earned, first-spent basis.
The PenFed Pathfinder Rewards Card features one bonus category which is travel. PenFed Honors Advantage Members will earn one additional point. To qualify as a PenFed Honors Advantage Member, the card holder must have and maintain a PenFed Access America Checking Account -OR- the primary or joint applicant must have Military service (active duty, reserve, honorably discharged, or retired).
The PenFed Pathfinder Rewards Card earns 3 PenFed Points per $1 spent on travel purchases. PenFed Honors Advantage Members will earn an additional point for a total of 4 PenFed Points per $1 spent. Travel purchases on the Pathfinder Rewards Card fall under:
- Car Rental
- Travel Agency
- Commuter Transportation
- Bus Lines
- Tour Operators
Since the card does not have an annual fee, you're looking at a solid return of 3%-4% per $1 spent on travel which is great! This is about the best you can do in terms of earning on travel category with such a straightforward return. Other cards that offer a good return on travel, but have an annual fee, is the Chase Sapphire Reserve, Citi ThankYou Premier Card, and Chase Ink Business Preferred Card. These cards offer Chase Ultimate Rewards Points or Citi ThankYou Points which are popular currencies in the credit card point world that can transfer to a great deal of frequent flyer, hotel loyalty, and other programs.
Any purchases made on the PenFed Pathfinder Reward Card outside of the travel category will earn 1 PenFed Point per $1 spent. At a rate of 1 cent per PenFed Point, this comes out to be a simple return of 1.5% which is not that bad. If you're looking to build points strictly with PenFed Credit Union, you can pick up the PenFed Platinum Rewards Visa Signature Card which earns 5x PenFed Points on gas and 3x PenFed Points on groceries. The PenFed Platinum also has no annual fee which makes it the perfect compliment to the PenFed Pathfinder Rewards Card.

This calculator will also give you the dollar value of the card based on rewards earned and how much each benefit is worth to you minus the fees. You can click the Compare A Card button to compare this card against another card in the same calculator.
All category spend entered in the primary card's column will carry over to all credit card pages on the site so you don't have to re-enter the same information over again.
PenFed Platinum Rewards
The PenFed Platinum Rewards Visa Signature Card pairs well with the PenFed Pathfinder Card. It earns 5x PenFed Points on gas station purchases and 3x on grocery purchases. On top of that, it does not have an annual fee so you will be earning a superb return on both categories.
ThankYou Preferred Card
Another good travel card with no annual fee is the Citi ThankYou Preferred Card. It earns 2x ThankYou Points on both restaurant and entertainment purchases. ThankYou Points are worth 1 cent each when holding this card and can be worth a little more if you hold either the Citi ThankYou Preferred or Citi Prestige cards. ThankYou Points can be used for travel, electronics, statement credits, cash, and gift cards.
The Barclay Uber Card features a whopping ten categories which consist of a mix of travel and everyday purchases. It's best perk comes from earning 4% cash back on restaurants, bars, and UberEats. Along with that it features the categories of airfare, hotels, online shopping, music and video streaming services and more! The Uber Card has no annual fee, no authorized user fee, and no foreign transaction fee. The cash back earned on the Uber card does not have to be used for Uber either. It can be used for statement credits and gift cards at the same excellent rate of 1:1 ratio.
