FlexPerks Select Plus Card
The U.S. Bank FlexPerks Select Plus Card is the lowest of the three FlexPoint earning American Express cards. It features no bonus categories and no distinctive travel perks.
The Value of U.S. Bank FlexPoints
FlexPoints are valued at around 1.5 cents each and can be redeemed for airfare, hotel stays, car rentals, cruises, statement credits and more. You will get the best value out of FlexPoints when they are redeemed for travel. FlexPoints can be transfered to other FlexPoint Accounts with up to a max of 20,000 points a year. FlexPoints can also be purchased at $0.03 a point and a minimum of 3,000 must be purchased. FlexPoints are purchased in increments of 1,000 with a max purchase of 60,000 points a year.
The FlexPerks Select Rewards Card earns a flat rate of FlexPoints for all purchases. There is no limit to the amount of points you can earn with this card.
1x All Purchases
The FlexPerks Select Rewards Card earns a flat rate of 1 FlexPoint per $1 spent on all purchases. Since FlexPoints are worth 1.5 cents each, you're looking at a 1.5% return on all purchases. That makes the FlexPerks Select Plus equal to a 1.5% cash back card when it's redeemed towards travel. There are too many cards to list that makes 1.5% cash back with no annual fee, but if you're looking to take it up a notch, the Citi Double Cash earns 2% cash back on all purchases.

You can use this rewards calculator to calculate how many points, miles, or cash back you can earn based on your spend per category. This calculator will also give you the dollar value of the card based on rewards earned and how much each benefit is worth to you minus the fees. You can click the Compare A Card button to compare this card against another card in the same calculator.
All category spend entered in the primary card's column will carry over to all credit card pages on the site so you don't have to re-enter the same information over again.
Since FlexPoints are worth 1.5 cents each when redeemed for travel, the return rate is 1.5% on all purchases which makes the FlexPerks Select Plus Card an okay choice for anyone trying to specifically accumulate FlexPoints. It's no better than a no annual fee 1.5% cash back card. I recommend aiming for a card that focuses on a bonus category you frequent spend in so that you can maximize your earnings!
If you a good deal in grocery the FlexPerks Travel Rewards Card could be a good choice since it earns double FlexPoints on grocery/supermarket purchases. Another good option for those who like the perks that come with American Express Cards, should look at the Blue Cash Everyday (3% back) or Blue Cash Preferred (6% back) for the best return on spending. Both cards also feature gas station and department store categories.
The U.S. Bank FlexPerks Gold Card offers 3x FlexPoints on restaurant purchases along with 2x FlexPoints on both airfare and gas. Depending on how much you spend, this could put you ahead of the FlexPerks Select Card by a land slide. If you're looking outside of the FlexPerks box, the Barclay Uber Card (4% back) and Capital One SavorOne Card (3% back) both offer high cash back on restaurant purchases, have no annual fee, and no international transaction fee!
