Bank Rewards Points Calculators
Calculators for earning, redeeming, transferring, and calculating the cash value of points earned with bank rewards programs.
Bank programs offers great opportunities to earn rewards on everyday spend. These programs aren't associated with any particular airline or hotel program. Instead, they are offered directly through the bank. You'll also want to note that there are two types of bank rewards programs. Those that allow you to transfer points to partners and those that don't. The more popular programs are of course the ones that allow you to transfer points to airline miles and hotel points. The ones that don't allow you to transfer are still great programs, but more-so just glorified cash back programs.
Bank Rewards Programs
When you're diving into bank rewards programs, there's two different types of programs. Bank programs which allows you to transfer the rewards you earn to other programs as well as redeem them through the bank and programs which only allows you to redeem rewards through the bank.
There are four major programs that allow you to transfer points to airlines and hotels programs. This is addition to being able to redeem points directly with the bank for travel, statement credits, gift cards, and more. The reason these type of bank rewards programs are popular is because it gives you more flexibility when it comes to redeeming your points. Being able to turn your points into miles or hotel points can be very useful. You can earn more miles and hotel points using bank rewards cards than you can with the actual airline and hotel credit cards.
Outside of the major four programs that allow you to transfer points, the other bank reward programs allow you to earn points that are redeemable directly through the bank itself. Unlike cash back which always has a redemption value of 1 cent for 1 cent, points earned in bank reward programs can be worth more or less than 1 cent depending on the program and the redemption. Programs in which points are always worth one cent are just cash back programs disguised as 'point' programs. For example, the Discover IT Miles Card earns 1.5 'miles' per $1 spent. Discover Miles are worth 1 cents each, so it's basically a 1.5% cash back card being advertised as a 'miles' card. This doesn't mean that these cards are bad options. There are tons of bank reward programs with non-transferable points that are pretty good. It all comes down to your spend habits and whether or not the program is a good fit!
