If you love to eat and you love to travel, there's no shortage of cards that will give you a great return across both categories.

At the top of the charts you'll find the Chase Sapphire Reserve and the American Express Green Card. Both cards earn 3x points in their respective programs. The Chase Sapphire Reserve is stacked with a bunch of additional benefits and elite travel perks since it is a premium card. The AMEX Green will not shower you with such perks (you'll need the AMEX Platinum for that), but you will earn a solid return at a lower pricing point in terms of the annual fee. If you prefer ThankYou Points, the Citi ThankYou Premier is the way to go.

If you don't care for transferable rewards points, the Wells Fargo Propel AMEX is a great choice. You'll earn a minimum of a 3% return on all your travel, dining, and streaming service purchases with the ability to earn up to a 4.5% return if you have the Wells Fargo Visa Signature Card.

If you're a lover of cash back you'll find that there's not as many options as points/miles credit cards. Bank of America's cash back credit cards allow you to pick one of the two categories you want to earn 3% in. You can also earn between a 10% and 75% bonus on points earned if you have money invested with them.

Lastly if you spend at Costco or Sam's Club, you can earn a nice return with their credit cards. The Costco Anywhere Visa Card earns 3% back on both travel and dining as well as 4% on gas and 2% at Costco. The Sam's Club Mastercard earns 3% back on both gas and travel as well, but earns a whopping 5% cash back on gas purchases. The only drawback to these cards is that you'll receive your earned cash back once per year (usually during February).

Anything outside of these and your best options comes down to 2% cash back credit cards in which several have no annual fee. Good examples are the Citi Double Cash and PayPal CashBack Mastercard.

Listed below are the best credit cards for the given category sorted by return. Some credit cards have a wide range of value due to having multiple redemption options that yield such. For example, you may be able to redeem a program's points for cash back at value of 0.5 cents each but redeeming the same points for travel could offer a value of 1.25 cents each. You don't want to pick up a card that has an annual fee that doesn't match up with how you plan on redeeming your rewards. That will give you a negative return and no one wants that. So be sure to research the value of points and miles to get an idea of how value they will have for you. Don't go by the return values listed below alone.

You can click on a card's Rewards Calculator button (where applicable) to calculate how much you can earn across all categories on the card based on your spend, how much you value the benefits of the card, and any annual fees including authorized user fees (if applicable). You'll also be able to compare the results side by side any other card featured on the site based on the same spend. And spend you enter into a credit card rewards calculator will carry over to other credit card calculators on the site.

Credit cards that are part of the American Express Membership Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards, Citi ThankYou Rewards, and Capital One Rewards programs will normally be towards the top of the list due to the value of transferring rewards to partners. Selecting this box will give these currencies their non-point transfer value. You will need to Re-Calculate after changing this option.
