Program Details

American Express has several cash back credit cards that can earn you a little bit of extra money back in your pocket on everyday spend. This consists of several personal cards and a business card. The AMEX Blue Cash Preferred is AMEX's most popular card due to the superb return on grocery spend.

Redeeming Cash Back with AMEX

Redeeming cash back with personal AMEX Cards is different from redeeming cash back with AMEX Business cards.

Personal Cards

Cash back earned with the Blue Cash Everyday, Blue Cash Preferred, and Cash Magnet Card are referred to as Reward Dollars. One Rewards Dollar is equal to $1 in cash back. You must have at least $25 in rewards dollars to be able to redeem rewards. You can cash in your American Express rewards dollars for a statement credit, gift cards, and merchandise. While the statement credit and gift cards are offered at the equal dollar for dollar value, merchandise seems to be a little bit higher than normal retail price. I'd recommend purchasing merchandise through other means and applying your rewards dollars toward a statement credit to your card.

Business Cards

The SimplyCash Plus Business Card, Blue Business Cash Card, and Plum Card are the are the cash back business cards American Express offers. These cards apply cash back that you've earned directly to the statement. It's automatic, so you will not have the ability to choose what you want to use your rewards for like you can the personal cards.

Credit Card Rewards Calculators

For personal credit cards, the Blue Cash Everyday and Blue Cash Preferred cards are primarily for those who find themselves at grocery stores. The Preferred offers extra cash back and extra bonus categories for those willing to pay the annual fee. The Cash Magnet Card is a flat rate earning card which is meant to be paired with either of the Blue Cash Cards to take care of all miscellaneous charges (though the Blue Business Cash Card would be the better choice).

For business credit cards, the Plum Card offers a 1.5% discount for those who pay off there charges early and also provides the ability to take up to 60 days to pay without interest. The Blue Business Cash card is the newest addition to the family is the cash back version of the AMEX Blue Business Plus. It earns 2% cash back on the first $50,000 made during the year and then earns 1% cash back for the remainder of the year. The SimplyCash Plus Business Card was made unavailable as of July 18th, 2019. It offered 3 bonus categories at flat rates of 5% cash back and your choice of one additional category from a list of 8 to earn 3% cash back spending in.

Comparison Calculators

Comparison Calculators features side by side comparisons of frequently compared credit cards or comparisons requested through our YouTube channel. These calculators are already set up so you can immediately start calculating total rewards as well as the cash value of the compared cards based on your monthly/yearly spend, how much the card benefits are worth to you, and the annual fees. Comparison Calculators does not allow you to change the designated cards being compared.
