The Barclay Uber Card is amongst one of the best cash back card available in my opinion. It offers 10 bonus categories, has no annual fee, authorized user fee, or foreign transaction fee, and you're able to redeem cash back earned at a 1:1 ratio for all redemptions. On top of that it offers a credit towards streaming services. It's a great card for anyone that travels or goes out for a night on the town frequently.

Barclay Uber Cash Back Redemptions

Cash back earned with the Barclay Uber Card can be redeemed for Uber Credits, statement credits, and gift cards. All redemptions are a 1% value which means your cash back will not be devalued based on what redemption option you choose. You will get a 1 to 1 value on everything including gift cards.

Bonus Categories

The Barclay Uber Card features an outstanding 10 bonus categories which consist of restaurants, bars, UberEats, airfare, hotels, vacation home rentals, online purchases, Uber, video streaming services, and music streaming services. This is a travelers dream card when it comes to maximizing earnings. Below are the details of each of the categories.

4% Restaurants

The Barclay Uber Card earns 4% cash back per $1 spent on restaurant purchases. This is one of the best returns in the credit card world when it comes to restaurant purchases. These purchase include both fast food, takeout, and fine dining establishments.

Nothing can quite reach the Uber Card in the terms of return, but there are a few cards that receive a lower rate of 3% cash back for restaurant purchases such as the Bank of America Cash Rewards Card, Capital One SavorOne Card, and PNC Cash Rewards Card.

4% Bars

Spending at bars will earn 4% cash back per $1 spent on the Barclay Uber Card. This is not a common bonus category, so if you're looking to earn money while out enjoying a drink, this is the card you will want to have in your wallet.

4% UberEats

If you use UberEats for food delivery, using the Barclay Uber Card to pay for that order will net you 4% cash back per $1 spent. No other reward card offers this as a bonus category, so this is the best return return you can get when it comes to using Uber's food service.

3% Airfare

Purchasing airfare directly through the airline with the Barclay Uber Card will earn 3% cash back per $1 spent. While the overall return can be beat by cards such as the AMEX Platinum Card (5% return) and Chase Sapphire Reserve (4.5% return), this return is hard to beat for a card that does not have an annual fee.

When it comes to being compared against airline cards, the Barclay Uber Card will usually produce the greater return per $1 spent, but a great deal of airline cards offer free checked bags, priority check in, and free tickets for companions flying with you. All of that together can save hundreds of dollars depending on how often you fly. I recommend taking a look at a few Frequent Flyer Programs to get a feel of what some of the airline cards offer. If you're not loyal to a specific airline, and just go with the cheapest option, then using this card will work wonders for you.

3% Hotels

The Barclay Uber Card earns 3% cash back per $1 spent when it used to book reservations directly with the hotel. This is also a fantastic return when it comes to having no annual fee. Using this card for some hotels will be great while others will not be. You'll earn a higher return on Hilton Hotels with the AMEX Hilton Honors Card and a higher return on Choice Hotels with the Barclays Choice Privileges Card.

Most co-branded hotels have an annual fee of around $85 to $99, but hotel cards do offer great benefits such as elite status which gives you access to perks like late check-out, complimentary room upgrades, free water, discounts and more. If you're not loyal to any specific brand of hotel, this card will work perfectly for you. Otherwise if you stay with a specific hotel brand, you may want to check out their co-branded credit card.

3% Vacation Home Rentals

Using the Barclay Uber Card on vacation home rentals will earn 3% cash back per $1 spent. Vacation home rentals include travel agencies and home share exchanges. This is an uncommon bonus category, so if you have some rentals coming up, this is the card for you!

2% Uber

The Barclay Uber Card earns 2% cash back on Uber purchases. I was surprised to find the bonus rate for Uber purchases to be at 2% while UberEats sit up top with 4% cash back. In terms of return and having no annual fee, if you're military you can earn 3x PenFed Reward Points on general travel purchases with the PenFed Pathfinder Rewards Card. But besides earning an equal 2% return with the Citi Double Cash Back Card, you're looking at a solid return on Uber. If the annual fee isn't a care for you, the best program when it comes to travel purchases is the Chase Ultimate Rewards Program. The Chase Ink Business Preferred ($95 annual fee), Chase Sapphire Preferred ($95 annual fee), and Chase Sapphire Reserve ($450 annual fee) all offer bonus Ultimate Rewards Points on general travel purchases which includes Uber, Hotels, and Airfare. The Preferred and Reserve even offer bonus points on restaurants and dining.

2% Online Shopping

Online shopping with the Barclay Uber Card will earn 2% cash back per $1 spent. This category is kind of opened and not clear when it comes to what all falls under it. Barclay defines online shopping as purchases that occur online or in a mobile device but not utilities or contracted services. I would say if you're doing online shopping at a normal retailer (such as Best Buy or Target) this would be when the Barclay Uber Card is useful assuming you don't hold a card that earns more than a 2% return. Since this is more of a general category, it's hard to compare it anything besides the Citi Double Cash which will earn you 2% cash back no matter the online shopping.

2% Video Streaming Services

If you're a user of Netflix, Hulu, or any other type of video streaming service, using the Barclay Uber Card will earn you 2% cash back per $1 spent. This is not a common bonus category. The Uber Card does offer a $50 online subscription credit if you manage to spend $5,000 on the card during the year. So I would recommend putting all video streaming service charges through this card.

2% Music Streaming Services

If you also use Apple Music, Spotify, or any other type of music streaming service, using the Barclay Uber Card will net you 2% cash back per $1 spent. As with the video streaming services, I recommend putting all music streaming spend through this card to partake in the $50 online subscription credit that triggers after $5,000 in spend for the year.

1% Non Category

Any purchases outside of the categories listed above made on the Barclay Uber Card will earn you 1% cash back per $1 spent. Non-category spend can be put on any 1.5% cash back card or higher of your choosing. Some recommendations include the Capital One Quicksilver, Chase Freedom Unlimited, and Citi Double Cash.

Perks and Benefits

$50 Online Subscription Credit

The Barclay Uber Card comes with a $50 credit for online subscription services after you spend $5,000 on your card per year. That is an excellent bonus if you use services such as Netflix, Hulu, Apple Music, and Spotify. This credit will only apply to each new digital subscription service transaction when it posts to the account once the $5,000 threshold is hit.

Sign Up Bonus

The standard Barclay Uber Card sign up bonus is 10,000 points after spending $500 in the first 90 days. This is equal to $100 in rewards which isn't bad.

Credit Card Fees

Fees
Annual Fee
Authorized User Fee
Foreign Transaction Fee

Annual Fee

The Barclay Uber Card does not have an annual fee. You will always earn an excellent return when it comes to using the Uber Card's bonus categories

Authorized User Fee

There is no authorized user fee for adding users to the Barclay Uber Card. I would recommend adding all family members as authorized users to this card due to the extreme amount of everyday categories and the earning rates on them.

Foreign Transaction Fee

There is no foreign transaction fee for using the Barclay Uber Card outside of the United States. That makes this one of the best travel cards when it comes to earning cash back while traveling abroad. Combine this card with a flat rate cash back card that also doesn't have a foreign transaction fee such as the Capital One Quicksilver and you will never make less than a 1.5% return on out of country purchases!
