The Capital One Savor Card is one of there more recent additions to the Capital One cash back family. It earns bonus cash back on dining, entertainment, and grocery purchases. It pairs well with the Quicksilver Card to make sure you get no less than 1.5% cash back on all purchases. All Capital One reward cards also have no foreign transaction fee which makes them great overseas.

Bonus Categories

The Capital One Savor Card features three bonus categories which are dining, entertainment, and grocery spending. Using the Savor Card in these categories will earn bonus cash back. There is no cap on the amount of bonus cash back you can earn spending in the Savor's bonus categories and there is no limit to the amount of cash back you can earn with the card. Below are the details on the Capital One Savor Card's bonus categories.

4% Dining

The Capital One Savor card earns 4% cash back on dining purchases. This is a great return, but the annual fee takes away from the value. Between dining and entertainment spending, you would have to spend $800 per month for this card to be better than the return on the no-annual fee version SavorOne Card. The Barclay Uber Card is a great competitor since it has no annual fee and it earns the same 4% cash back on restaurants in addition to 4% at bars and ordering UberEats as well. The Uber card also features seven additional bonus categories.

4% Entertainment

The Savor Card also earns 4% cash back for entertainment charges. The Capital One entertainment category are card charges that fall under:

  • Movie Theaters, Video Rentals (non-digital)
  • Tourist Attractions, Amusement Parks, Aquarium, Zoos
  • Billiard/Pool Establishments, Bowling Alleys, Ticket Events (i.e. bands, commercial sports, live performances)

The entertainment category is not seen on many popular rewards cards. You can get 2 ThankYou Points per $1 spent on the Citi Premier Card. Citi ThankYou Points are worth an easy 1 cents each, but they can be tranferred to several airline partners for more value.

2% Grocery/Supermarket

The last category on the Savor Card is for 2% cash back on grocery purchases. Do note that Capital One does not count grocery purchases made at gas stations, convenience stores, warehouse clubs, discount stores, and super stores. Places like Walmart and Target are not included and will be recognized as non-category spend.

Double cash back on grocery/supermarket purchases is nothing extraordinary. This is just an extra bonus category added to the Savor card to assist in earning cash back with Capital One. There are a few no annual fee cash back cards that offer more than 2% cash back on gas station purchases such as the Bank of America Cash Rewards Card and the PNC Cash Rewards Card. Both of those cards offer 3% cash back on grocery purchases.

1% Non-Category

All purchases not associated with the categories above will earn 1% cash back per $1 spent. This is not the card to put non-category spend on. If you're looking for something a tad bit higher that's still associated with Capital One, I would recommend the Capital One Quicksilver Card since it will make sure you never get less than 1.5% cash back for any purchase.

Perks and Benefits

World Elite Mastercard Benefits

There are no special perks or bonuses specific to the Capital One Savor Card, but this card does feature World Elite Mastercard Benefits such as extended warranty, price protection, complimentary concierge service, and 24-hour travel assistance services. The minimum credit limit for an approved Savor card is $5,000 which is the credit line requirement for the card to be a World Elite Mastercard.

Sign Up Bonus

The Capital One Savor card sign up bonus is $500 after you spend $3,000 within the first three months of account opening. This is one of the highest sign up bonuses presented by Capital One.

Credit Card Fees

Annual Fee
Authorized User Fee
Foreign Transaction Fee

Annual Fee

The annual fee for the Capital One Savor Card is $0 the first year, then $95 annually. This lets you test out the cash back potential of the Savor Card the first year. If you find out that you do not spend enough in the restaurant or entertainment categories, you can back down to the no annual fee SavorOne Card.

Authorized User Fee

There is no fee to add authorized users to the Capital One Savor Card. This allows you build cash back with Capital One faster and could make a big different on whether or not the annual fee is worth it. If you have family or friends that spend heavy in these categories, I recommend adding them to the Savor Card.

Foreign Transaction Fee

The Capital One Savor Card does not have a foreign transaction fee. This means you can maximize your spend when outside of the United States as well. In fact, none of the Capital One Reward Credit Cards have a foreign transaction fee, so you can pair this card with the Quicksilver Card and never earn less than 1.5% cash back worldwide!
