Citi Double Cash Card
Calculate how much cash back you can earn and the cash value of the Citi Double Cash based on monthly/yearly spend and card benefits. Compare results side by side against top cards.
The Citi Double Cash Card is one of the most popular cash back cards due to it earning 2% cash back while still having no annual fee. It's a simple and easy-to-use card that has straightforward redemptions. The Citi Double Cash Card is good for anyone looking to maximize their spending by never earning less than a 2% return.
The Citi Double Cash Card earns cash back at a flat rate per $1 spent. It does not feature any bonus categories. There is no limit to the amount of cash back you can earn with the Citi Double Cash Card.
2% All Purchases
The Citi Double Cash Card earns 2% cash back per $1 spent on all purchases. You will receive 1% cash back when making a purchases and the additional 1% cash back for paying off the purchases. This means you will earn 2 cents for every $1 you run across the card. This is one of the highest paying flat rate cash back cards with no annual fee, which is why it's such a popular card.
The only drawback to the Citi Double Cash (in my opinion) is that it can't be paired with any other Citi Cards to create a great cash back combo. For example, most of the 1.5% cash back cards can be paired with several other cards. The 1.5% cash back earning Cash Magnet Card can be matched with the Blue Cash Everyday or Blue Cash Preferred for a nice combo between several bonus categories. The same with the 1.5% cash back Quicksilver Card. Pair the Quicksilver with the Savor Card or SavorOne Card you have yourself another solid combination of cards. The best you can do with the Double Cash is to stick with cards under the Citi Bank umbrella and pick up one of their popular ThankYou Point Credit Cards which lets you use points to pay for travel, gift cards, and more.
Perks and Benefits
Late Fee Pass
The Citi Double Cash features a Late Fee Pass which waives the first fee the first time you make a payment late. This can be a great perk if a payment is overlooked or cannot be made in time. If you find it hard to keep track of cards, I recommend having an auto payment for the minimum payment on cards. That way cards such as the Citi Double Cash are paid on time. Nothing hurts more than a late fee or a red mark on your credit report.
Convert To ThankYou Points
(Starting September 23rd) Cash back earned with the Citi Double Cash can be converted to ThankYou Points. Those who hold the Chairman, Prestige, or Premier cards will be able to transfer at the rate of 1 cent for 1 point (1:1) and redeem those transferred points with Citi's transfer partners. Those who do not have one of those three cards will only be able to transfer points and use them on JetBlue Airways.
Sign Up Bonus
The Citi Double Cash Card sign up bonus is a $100 cash back bonus after $500 in purchases within the first 3 months of account opening. This is not a high return, but it's not too shabby either.
Credit Card Fees
|Authorized User Fee|
|Foreign Transaction Fee|
The annual fee for the Citi Double Cash Card is $0. That means you will always earn a 2% return on all purchases without worrying about trying to break even due to a yearly fee.
Authorized User Fee
There is no authorized user fee for the Citi Double Cash Card. I recommend adding family and friends to help build the cash back balance since the return for all purchases is 2%.
Foreign Transaction Fee
Unfortunately, the Citi Double Cash Card has a foreign transaction fee of 3%. Using this card outside of the United States will eat the value of your rewards. I would not recommend using this card internationally. If you want a card that's just as good as the Citi Double Cash but has no foreign transaction fee, you're going to want to look at the Paypal Cashback Mastercard.
You can use this rewards calculator to calculate how many points, miles, or cash back you can earn based on your spend per category.
