Discover offers three no-fee credit card options when it comes to earning cash back. You have the very popular Discover IT card which features rotating categories like the Chase Freedom, the Discover IT Chrome Card which earns cash back across two categories, and the Discover IT Business Card which earns at a flat rate of cash back for all purchases. Discover is most known for it's cash back match in which Discover will match the amount of cash back you earn the first year. This gives you the ability to earn a lot of cash back the first year of having any Discover card.

Redeeming Discover Cash Back

Cash back earned with Discover Cards can be redeem for cash, gift cards, charity, and at checkout on Amazon.com. Cash redemptions can be applied to your bill as a statement credit or it can be deposited electronically into your account. Gift cards will usually get you a little over 1 cents in value depending on your redemptions. For example many $50 gift cards only cost $45 in Discover Cash Back giving you a little bit of bonus value. Amazon and charity donations are also available with $1 in Discover Cash Back equaling an even $1 to spend with Amazon or $1 donated to charity.

Credit Card Rewards Calculators

The Discover IT features quarterly rotating 5% cash back categories with a combined bonus spend cap of $1,500 each quarter. Discover displays all of their categories for the year prior to the next year starting, so you will not be left in the dark as to what you're going to get when you apply. The Discover IT Chrome Card offers 2% cash back on both gas and restaurant purchases which is decent. Lastly, the Discover Business Card offers 1.5% cash back on all purchases.

Discover also features several cards that are based off their main cards, but offer a few extra small benefits:

  • The Discover NHL Card is a variation of the Discover IT Cash Card. It features the same 5% cash back rotating categories, but also saves you 10% off NHL.TV subscriptions and Shop.NHL.com
  • The Discover IT Student Cash Back Card is another variation of the Discover IT Cash Card. Along with the rotating categories, students who has a GPA of 3.0 or higher will receive a $20 statement credit every year for up to five years
  • The Discover IT Student Chrome Card is a variation of the Discover IT Chrome Card. It earns the same 2% cash back on both gas and restaurant purchases along with the ability to earn a $20 statement credit every year, for up to five years, when the student cardholder maintains a GPA of 3.0 or higher

Discover Credit Card Cash Back Calculators

You can click on any of the Discover credit cards below to learn about the bonus categories, perks & benefits, standard sign up bonus, and fees of the card. Each Discover credit card also has it's own cash back calculator. The calculator will calculate how much cash back you can earn and the cash value of the Discover credit card based on your monthly/yearly spend, how much each card benefit is worth to you, and the fees of the card. You can compare the results side by side any credit card featured on the site. Any spend you enter into the credit card cash back calculator will carry over to all credit card calculators on the site, so there's no need to re-enter spend when jumping page to page.

Note: The Discover IT Card does not have a standard cash back calculator due to the rotating categories. You can still calculate how much cash back you can earn based on spending in a 5% cash back category.

Comparison Calculators

Comparison Calculators features side by side comparisons of frequently compared credit cards or comparisons requested through our YouTube channel. These calculators are already set up so you can immediately start calculating total rewards as well as the cash value of the compared cards based on your monthly/yearly spend, how much the card benefits are worth to you, and the annual fees. Comparison Calculators does not allow you to change the designated cards being compared. If you want to compare credit cards outside of the comparisons listed below, I recommend searching for the credit card you want to compare and then using its calculator to compare it against anything featured on the site.
