The PNC Cash Rewards Visa Signature is the best card in the PNC credit card line up. It is an excellent choice for anyone looking to maximize there returns across everyday categories. The best reason to pick up the PNC Cash Rewards Visa Signature is due to the outstanding 4% return it earns on gas purchases. Pair that with a good return on restaurants and a solid return on grocery and you have yourself a card for the long run!

Bonus Categories

The PNC Cash Rewards Visa Signature features 3 bonus categories: gas stations, restaurants, and grocery spending. Using the card in any of these three categories will earn bonus cash back. All three bonus categories on the PNC Cash Rewards Visa Signature have a combined spend cap of $8,000 per year. Once you have spend $8,000 collectively across the three categories, all three categories will earn 1% per $1 spent for the remainder of the year. There is no limit to the amount of cash back you can earn using the PNC Cash Rewards Visa Signature.

4% Gas Station

The PNC Cash Rewards Visa Signature earns 4% cash back per $1 spent at gas stations. Gas Stations are defined as merchants that specialize in the selling of gasoline. So places such as Speedway, BP, Hess, and Exxon will count towards this category. This return of 4% is amongst the highest in the credit card industry. The Bank of America Cash Rewards Card comes close earning a 3% return on gas purchases.

3% Restaurant

Dining out with the PNC Cash Rewards Visa Signature will earn you a yummy 3% cash back per $1 spent. The restaurant category includes both fast food and fine dining establishments, so as long as you're out enjoying food, you will be earning cash back. 3% is a solid return that you should consider. The only card that I recommend slightly over this one is the Barclay Uber Card which earns 4% cash back on restaurants.

2% Grocery Store

Grocery purchases with the PNC Cash Rewards Visa Signature will produce 2% cash back per $1 spent. This will apply to places such as Winn-Dixie, Publix, Vons, and Giant Eagle whom all specialize mainly in selling grocery. This is a relatively low return that can be approved on with the AMEX Blue Cash Everyday (3% cash back). If you've considered earning reward points instead of cash back, the Everyday Preferred Card is my personal favorite for grocery spend earning a 4.5% return.

Since the bonuses on the PNC Cash Rewards Visa Signature is based off of combined spend, I would recommend focusing more on the gas station and restaurant purchases and not use too much of the $8,000 limit on the grocery category.

1% Non-Category

All purchases on the PNC Cash Rewards Visa Signature outside of the categories listed above will earn 1% cash back per $1 spent. This is a low return and can be put on a 1.5% or higher cash back credit card. Some recommendations consist of the Chase Freedom Unlimited and AMEX Cash Magnet Card. You can even grab up 2% cash back with the Citi Double Cash Card.

Sign Up Bonus

The PNC Cash Rewards Card offers a sign up bonus of $100 after you spend $1,000 or more in purchases during the first 3 billing cycles following account opening. While not a lot, this is a simple, easy to reach sign up bonus.

Credit Card Fees

Annual Fee
Authorized User Fee
Foreign Transaction Fee

Annual Fee

There is no annual fee for the PNC Cash Rewards Visa Signature. You will always earn the maximum return for each bonus category.

Authorized User Fee

There is no fee associated with adding additional users to the PNC Cash Rewards Visa Signature. I recommend adding any friend or family member that spends heavy in any of the categories, but the primary focus should be the gas and restaurant categories. It can be easy to spend big on grocery, so be careful and remember there is a combined cap between all three categories.

Foreign Transaction Fee

Unfortunately the PNC Cash Rewards Visa Signature has a foreign transaction fee of 3%. This means using the card outside of the United States will eat away your hard earned rewards. I do not recommend using the PNC Cash Rewards Visa Signature when traveling out of the country. There are many great rewards cards that do not have a foreign transaction fee!
