Sign Up Bonus

Wells Fargo Propel AMEX

The standard sign up bonus for the Wells Fargo Propel AMEX is 30,000 bonus points after spending $3,000 in purchases on the card within the first 3 months. With the Propel AMEX alone, this has a value of $300 when applied towards travel and $225 when redeemed for gift cards. The Propel AMEX works best when it's paired with the Wells Fargo Visa Signature which grants a 50% boost in point value when points are redeemed towards airfare. That would give this bonus a value of $450.

Chase Sapphire Reserve

The standard sign up bonus for the Chase Sapphire Reserve Card is 50,000 Ultimate Rewards Points after spending $4,000 on the card within the first 3 months of opening the account. You can get a value of $750 when you redeem points on the travel portal thanks to the 50% point boost. Redemptions outside of the travel portal will earn you $500 or less. You can also transfer your Ultimate Rewards Point to hotel and airline partners for an easy 50,000 hotel points or airline miles which can be worth more than $750.

Credit Card Fees

Wells Fargo Propel AMEX

The Wells Fargo Propel AMEX has no annual fee which is quite amazing considering it offers a great return on points across popular categories.

The Wells Fargo Propel has no authorizes user fee which means you can add friends and family as authorized users without worrying about being charged. With such great categories and no cap on the amount of points you can earn, I highly recommend adding additional users to the card if you can.

The Wells Fargo Propel AMEX has no foreign transaction fee. That makes is card a great option for international travel/purchases, but be aware that AMEX isn't always accepted and that you should always have a Mastercard or VISA as backup.

Chase Sapphire Reserve

The Chase Sapphire Reserve has an annual fee of $450. While this is pricey, remember that this card offers $300 in annual travel credits which effectively brings the true fee to $150.

If you want to add authorized users to the card, it will cost you $75 per user. If you value Ultimate Rewards Points at 1.5 cents each, every additional person you add will need to spend at least $139 per month in travel/dining purchases to their card to cover the authorized user fee.

The Chase Sapphire Reserve does not have a foreign transaction fee which means you'll be earning bonus points internationally when spending in the travel and dining categories. Considering that the Reserve is a VISA, you should have no problem earning rewards worldwide.
