The Best Western Premium is the primary card for those looking to earn some serious Best Western Points on stays with their brand. Along with earning additional points, cardholders will also receive a bunch of useful benefits thanks to the complimentary Platinum Elite Status the card offers. If you consistently find yourself at Best Western brand hotels, you will want to consider picking this card up.

Bonus Categories

The Best Western Premium Mastercard features one bonus category which is spending done at Best Western brand hotels. There is no cap on this bonus category and there is no limit to the amount of Best Western Points you can earn in general with the card.

10x Best Western

The Best Western Premium Mastercard earns 10 Best Western Points per $1 spent at Best Western brand hotels. With points being worth about 0.7 cents each, you're looking at an additional 7% return when using this card. Factoring in the base earnings and the complimentary Platinum Status, you're looking at a minimum of 21.5 Best Western Points per $1 spent at their brand. If you're trying to maximize your points, this is a great way of going about it.

2x Non-Category

All other purchases made on the Best Western Premium Mastercard will earn 2 Best Western Points per $1 spent. This an extremely low return that averages around 1.4% per $1 spent. You can do a lot better than this using a 1.5% cash back or higher card. I recommend that you either find other cards that focus on bonus categories you spend in or run non-category spend on a card that earns a 1.5% or higher return like the Citi Double Cash or PayPal Cashback Mastercard.

Perks and Benefits

Best Western Platinum Elite Status

Best Western Premium Mastercard holders will receive complimentary Platinum Elite Status. This includes 15% bonus points, room upgrades, welcome gifts and more. Platinum Elite status is normally earned after 15 nights, 10 qualifying stays, or 15,000 qualifying points earned on eligible stays. So if you do not have Platinum Status or higher with Best Western already, this can be a good reason to pick up the card.

Anniversary Points

Best Western Premium Mastercard holders can earn 20,000 bonus points every year by running $5,000 in spend through the card within the card anniversary year (12-month billing cycle). This has an estimate cash value of about $140 or at least one free night at a Best Western hotel.

Sign Up Bonus

The standard sign up bonus for the Best Western Premium Mastercard is 50,000 Best Western Points after spending $1,000 within the first 3 billing cycles. This is a relatively easy sign up bonus to hit worth about $350 in cash value or around 3 free nights at a Best Western hotel.

Credit Card Fees

Annual Fee
Authorized User Fee
Foreign Transaction Fee

Annual Fee

The annual fee for the Best Western Premium Mastercard is $0 the first year, then $59 annually. If you're able to hit the $5,000 in spend on this card annually, that will easily wipe out the fee. The fact that it comes with Platinum Elite status is also a plus. In terms of points, at the rate of 0.7 cents per point it would take about 8,500 points to wipe out the fee which would require at least $850 in spend at Best Western Hotels. If you don't normally spend that much during the year at Best Western hotels, this card may not be worth it to you once the annual fee kicks in the second year.

Authorized User Fee

The Best Western Premium Mastercard does not have an authorized user fee. This means you can add additional users to help you build points without worrying about them having to spend enough on the card to make it worth it. If you have family or friends that spend at Best Western, adding them can push you closer to redeeming free nights and more.

Foreign Transaction Fee

The Best Western Premium Mastercard has a 0% foreign transaction fee. This allows you to make international purchases with your Best Western Credit Card without worrying about charged a fee. While it's great that you can earn Best Western Points internationally without penalty, the card doesn't really feature any bonus categories outside of spending in it's own chain. I recommend finding other great rewards cards for international spending such as the Barclays Uber Card or PayPal Cashback Mastercard.
