Other IHG Airline Transfer Partners

IHG Points can be transferred to a good amount of airlines that are not part of an alliance as well non-airline partners. Below are a few that are worth mentioning.

Air Miles

If you're part of the Canadian AIR MILES program, you can top off your account using IHG Points at a 10,000 IHG Points to 250 AIR MILES ratio.

Alaska Airlines

It's not easy to build Alaska Miles outside of using Alaska Airlines Credit Cards due to them not being partnered with any of the major bank rewards programs. So being able to transfer any kind of points to Alaska is a plus!

Compare IHG Transfer Partners

The tables below compared IHG's transfer partners side by side several other top rewards programs such as Marriott, Hyatt, and Hilton.

IHG vs Marriott Transfer Partners

IHG and Marriott shares more than 30 different airline partners. Marriott's transfer ratio is 3:1 for most partners and you can up to 23.5 Bonvoy Points as a Marriott Titanium Elite (or higher) using a Marriott Credit Card. This gives you a max of 7.83 airline miles with most of Marriott's partners which is slightly higher than the max 6 miles you can earn with IHG Rewards Club program.

On top of offering a great transfer ratio, Marriott also gives you a bonus 15,000 Bonvoy Points for every 60,000 points you transfer. This gives you an additional 5,000 airline miles.

IHG vs Hyatt Transfer Partners

The IHG Rewards Club shares 20 airline partners with World of Hyatt, but IHG has more partners in general. In terms of transfer ratio, Hyatt's is 2.5:1 with most partners and you can only earn up to 10.5 Hyatt Points per $1 spent with Hyatt Globalist and the Hyatt Credit Card. That gives you a max of 4.2 airline miles with Hyatt.

Similar to Marriott, Hyatt also offers a transfer bonus. You'll earn 5,000 bonus miles for every 50,000 Hyatt Points you transfer.

IHG vs Hilton Transfer Partners

IHG and Hilton have a lot of transfer partners. Both programs share over 25 airline partners. Hilton's transfer ratios vary by airline, but the most common transfer ratio is 10:1. Hilton Honors members can earn up to 34 points per $1 spent as a Hilton Honors Diamond member using the Hilton Honors Aspire Card. This gives you 3.4 airline miles per $1 spent which is pretty low compared to other partners.

The plus to Hilton is that you can earn complimentary Hilton Honors Diamond status by having the Hilton Honors Aspire Card. This puts you at the highest status and maxes out the total number of Hilton Honors Points you can earn which is not possible with any other major hotel loyalty program.

How To Transfer IHG Points

IHG Points can be transferred to airline miles by calling the IHG Rewards Club Service Center. Points cannot be transferred online. Transferring your points to IHG's airline partners can take at least 2-3 weeks to be deposited, so do note that this is not a fast process.

Transfer Points To IHG

Short on IHG Points? You can transfer rewards to your IHG Rewards Club account using a small handful of programs. This allows you easily top off your account as well as earn IHG Points in alternative ways through credit card spend, sign up bonuses, and more.

Transfer Points To IHG Calculator

The Transfer Points To IHG Calculator will calculate the transfer of points from partnering programs to your IHG Rewards Club account. Enter any amount of IHG Points to see how many points or miles you would need to transfer from the partner programs to equal the amount you entered.

Chase Ultimate Rewards

Chase Ultimate Rewards Points is going to be the best choice for earning IHG Points outside of IHG spend thanks to the 1:1 transfer ratio and the seven Chase credit cards you can use to build those points. Chase also features great sign up bonuses that can earn you between 50,000 and 80,000 IHG Points once transferred.

Hertz Gold Plus Rewards

If you rent cars through Hertz and you're part of their Gold Plus Rewards Program, you can use the points you've earned to top off your account at a pretty decent ratio of 3 Hertz points for 5 IHG Points. Hertz Gold Plus members can earn anywhere between 10 to 15 points per $1 spent depending on elite status. This means spending $100 at Hertz would earn you 100-150 Hertz Points which is equal to 166-250 IHG Points. Just remember that Hertz Points have an average value of 2.5 to 5 cents per point when used towards free rentals.

Virgin Atlantic

Virgin Atlantic Flying Club Miles can be transferred to IHG at a 1:1 ratio. While I wouldn't recommend using Virgin Atlantic Miles as the primary source of funding your IHG Rewards Club account, it is an option if you need to top off your account for an award redemption. Virgin Atlantic Miles are generally worth 1.2 to 1.4 cents each when redeemed towards award flights. These miles are also great for anyone wanting to travel in Delta Premium or Delta One cabins at a far better rate than what Delta Airlines offers on their own website.

Earning With Partner Credit Cards

When it comes to earning IHG Points with credit card spend, you'll be able to use IHG credit cards and transfer partner credit cards. All cards that you can use to earn points are listed in the table below. The earning rates listed for partner credit cards are based on the transfer ratio. You can use the Best Credit Cards For IHG Points tool to get a list of the best cards based on your spend across different categories.

Summary

The IHG Rewards Program provides an easy way for you to top off your favorite frequent flyer accounts. While this is a free and easy route to take, be sure to note that it can take weeks for the actual transfer to complete. If you need points sooner, you'll have to buy IHG Points to top off your account though I do recommend waiting until IHG Points are on sale.

Looking for more ways to earn IHG Points? You can earn IHG Points dining at your favorite restaurants using the IHG Rewards Club Dining Program. You can also jump to the main IHG Points Calculator page to get the links for earning IHG Points with OpenTable and GrubHub.

The best method of earning points will still stem from using the IHG Credit Cards. I recommend using the IHG Credit Card Comparison Calculator to compare both IHG credit cards side by side based on spend, how much you value the card benefits, and the annual fees.
