Marriott Bonvoy Bold
Review the benefits of the Marriott Bonvoy Bold, calculate how many points you can earn based on spend, and compare results side-by-side top rewards cards.
The Marriott Bonvoy Bold is the no annual fee card in the Marriott Bonvoy family of credit cards. The card itself offers a small return on Marriott spend and grants Silver Elite status with Marriott. It's an option for those looking to downgrade their curreny Chase Marriott Cards to avoid paying annual fees. Anyone that plan on staying at Marriott a few times a year will want to take a step up to the Marriott Boundless Card.
The Marriott Bonvoy Bold Card features two bonus categories which is Marriott hotel spend and general travel spend. There is no limit to the amount of bonus points you can earn spending across these categories and no limit to the amount of points you can earn with the card overall.
The Marriott Bonvoy Bold Card earns 3 points per $1 spent at Marriott Hotels. This is the only Marriott Card that earns a lower amount of points on Marriott spend as the other available cards will earn you 6x points per $1 spent. If you typically spend a lot of paid nights at Marriott, this earning rate will not be benefical for you.
The Marriott Bonvoy Bold Card earns 2 points per $1 spent on travel purchases (not including Marriott purchases). Travel purchases with Chase generally fall under the following:
- Hotels, Motels, Timeshares
- Car Rental Agencies, Taxis, Buses, Trains, Limousines
- Cruise Lines
- Travel Agencies, Travel Sites
- Ferries, Toll Bridges, Highways
- Parking Lots, Garages
- Anything else coded as travel
While this is the only Marriott credit card that features travel as a categories, do note that the other available Marriott credit cards earn 2x Marriott Bonvoy Points on all non-Marriott purchases.
All non-category purchases on the Marriott Bonvoy Bold will earn you 1 Marriott Bonvoy Point per $1 spent. This is an extremely low return and you can do better with any other available Marriott credit card. If you're not looking to pick up a higher-tiered Marriott Card, you'd be better off running non-category spend through a 2% or higher cash back card like the 2% cash back Paypal CashBack Mastercard, 3% cash back Alliant CashBack Visa, or 3% cash back AOD Visa Signature.
