Review the benefits of the Amazon Prime Card, calculate how many Amazon Points you can earn based on spend, and compare the results to top rewards cards.

If you currently have Amazon Prime or you've been considering grabbing up Amazon Prime, the Amazon Prime Credit Card will be the card you will want in your wallet. It earns a very generous 5% cash back on Amazon purchases. In addition to Amazon, it also earns 5% back on Whole Foods Market along with 2% back on other everyday categories such as restaurants and gas stations. If you're not looking to get Prime but still want to earn cash back on Amazon, Whole Foods Stores, and other categories, you can get the Non-Prime Version of the card.

Bonus Categories

The Amazon Prime Credit Card features five bonus categories which are Amazon purchases, Whole Foods Market, restaurant, gas station, and drugstores. There is no limit to the amount of cash back you can earn using this card. This card is different from the Amazon Store Card, which also requires Amazon Prime and earns 5% cash back on Amazon purchases. The store card can only be used on while this card is a Visa Signature Card and can be used anywhere Visa is accepted.

5% Amazon

The Amazon Prime Credit Card earns 5% cash back on Amazon. This includes digital downloads, Gift Cards, Amazon Fresh orders, Amazon Prime subscriptions, and items sold by third-party merchants through’s marketplace. This is one of the best returns you can get on purchases. The only other card that occasionally makes just as much is the Discover IT Card which has rotating 5% categories and usually offers Amazon as it's quarterly category at least once a year.

5% Whole Foods Market

Using the Amazon Prime Credit Card at Whole Foods Market will earn you 5% cash back per $1 spent. This includes physical Whole Foods Market and Whole Foods Market 365 stores, and the website accessible at This can be slightly beat by the Blue Cash Preferred Card which earns 6% cash back on up to $6,000 per year then 1% cash once that limit is hit for the remainder of the year.

2% Restaurant

You will earn 2% cash back on restaurant purchases with the Amazon Prime Credit Card. This will include merchants whose primary business is sit-down or eat-in dining, including fast food restaurants as well as fine dining establishments. Unless you're primarily focusing on earning Amazon points, I would put the spend on a card that offers a higher return such as the Barclay Uber Card (4% cash back) and PNC Cash Rewards Card (3% cash back).

2% Gas Station

2% cash back can be earned at gas stations when using the Amazon Prime Credit Card. This is defined as merchants that specialize in the selling of automotive gasoline such as Exxon, BP, Speedway, and Hess. Earning 2% back on gas can be improved upon using the PNC Cash Rewards Card or the Bank of America Cash Rewards.

2% Drugstore

Spending at Drugstores with the Amazon Prime Credit Card will earn you 2% cash back per $1 spent. This will apply to places such as Rite Aid, Walgreen's, and CVS. This is not a common category in the credit card world, so if you're looking to earn rewards, the Amazon Prime Credit Card can get you a decent return in this category.

1x Non-Category

Any spending on the Amazon Prime Credit Card outside of the categories listed above will earn you a sad 1% cash back per $1 spent. This spend is better placed on a 1.5% return card such as the Capital One Quicksilver or Bank of America Travel Rewards Card.

Perks and Benefits

Standard Chase Perks

The Amazon Prime Credit Card comes with the standard Chase credit card perks such as travel and emergency assistance, lost luggage reimbursement, baggage delay insurance, and travel accident insurance, auto rental collision damage waiver and more. It also comes with Visa Signature benefits as well.

Sign Up Bonus

The Amazon Prime Credit Card comes with a $70 gift card upon approval. This gift card will be attached to the account.

Credit Card Fees

Annual Fee
Authorized User Fee
Foreign Transaction Fee

Annual Fee

The annual fee for the Chase Amazon Prime Credit Card is . If you're already an avid Prime user, this card will basically feel like it has no annual fee (you can un-check the fee if that's the case). I wouldn't get the card strictly for Amazon purchases since the store card can do just as good, but if you make use of the other categories along with Amazon Prime, then it's more than likely worth grabbing up.

Authorized User Fee

There is no fee associated with adding an authorized user to the Amazon Prime Card.

Foreign Transaction Fee

The Amazon Prime Card does not have a foreign transaction fee meaning you can use this card overseas without worrying about being penalized.
