Review the benefits of the Macy's Store Card, calculate how many Star Rewards Points you can earn based on spend, and compare against top rewards cards.
The Macy's Card is a great choice if you commonly find yourself shopping at Macy's. This store card earns anywhere from a 2% to 5% return on Macy's spend while also giving you full access to the Macy's Rewards program. Within the program, each tier is based off of how much you're spent in a calendar year at Macy's with the Macy's or Macy's AMEX Card.
The Macy's Store Card earns Star Rewards Points when used at Macy's. There's no limit to the amount of bonus points you can earn using the card.
Depending on your status in the Macy's Rewards Program, you will earn 2x to 5x Star Rewards Points (2%-5%) per $1 spent. This includes purchases at Macy's, Macy's Backstage, and Macys.com. The table below lists the amount of Star Rewards Points you'll earn based on your tier in the program.
Macy's Silver status only earns a 2% return which can easily be matched with a 2% cash back credit card or a card that earns cash back on department spend like the no-annual fee AMEX Blue Cash Everyday.
The returns that matter will come from having Macy's Gold and Macy's Platinum status in which you'll earn a 3% or 5% return on your spend. These type of returns on Macy's spend are pretty hard to beat. If you spend $500 or more at Macy's to easily obtain either of these statuses, you should consider picking up the Macy's Store Card.
The Macy's Store Card does not have a network associated with it (Visa, Mastercard, etc.), so it cannot be used outside of spending at Macy's. If you want to earn Star Rewards Points on all purchases, you'll want the Macy's AMEX Card which can be used anywhere AMEX is accepted. The card also offers bonus Star Rewards Points on restaurant, grocery, and gas station purchases and has no annual fee.
Perks and Benefits
The Macy's Card gives you full access to the Macy's Rewards Program. Those without a Macy's credit card will be stuck at Bronze status no matter how much is spent at Macy's. Full access to the rewards program comes with the ability to reach higher cardmember tier status and obtain the following benefits:
- 25% Off Any Day w/ Star Passes
- Free Shipping w/ No Minimum
- 2%-5% Back On Macy's Spend
Sign Up Bonus
The sign up bonus for the Macy's Card will vary depending on the holidays, season, and everything else under the sun. The most common sign up bonus is 20% off your first purchase with Macy's, up to $100 back. That means you can get rewarded on up to $500 in spend. Make sure you have a large purchase in mind before you apply since the sign up bonus is usually only good for the first day or two that you receive the ability to use the card.
Credit Card Fees
|Authorized User Fee|
|Foreign Transaction Fee|
The Macy's Card does not have an annual fee which means you'll always be earning a 2% to 5% return on your Macy's spend. Be sure to pay off your statement balance in full every month otherwise the interest will eat away your rewards and your happiness.
Authorized User Fee
There is no fee to add authorized users to the Macy's Card. If you have family or friends that spend their hard earned bucks at Macy's, consider adding them as it can earn you more rewards and help to earn/maintain Macy's Gold or Platinum cardmember status.
Foreign Transaction Fee
The Macy's Card is a store card with no network and thus cannot be used internationally. The foreign transaction fee is not applicable.
